Greg Marshall agrees to contract extension

Great to hear! The Valley needs to retain their better coaches to help get the conference back to the point where they can consistently earn at-large bids. This certainly helps them.

Very pleased to hear this news, especially since it does affect the Valley. I hope to see Wichita battling for an At-large spot next season after their successful NIT run, and possibly some good recruits coming in because of their success, and Marshall seems to recruit pretty well too since coming to Wichita.

What a difference a couple of weeks makes. I remember talking to some Shocker fans in St. Louis after they lost to ISU Blue who were hoping Marshall was going to move on out. They were tired of the Shockers underachieving.

Nice to see an influx of what looks to be a group of good coaches coming into the MVC, and, others improving their teams and staying (WSU) ....

and guys like Smart and Stevens staying put at the mid majors.....I think this is somewhat indicative of younger people today and looking at quality of life for them and their families....they can still make a great living doing something they love without some of the BCS pressure smothering them.

Well, I would venture to say that they overachieved in the NIT.
I'm pretty sure their fans expect to make the NIT at least next season, if not the NCAA tourney. They're pretty knowledgeable fans though, and know that a bulk of their bulk (Bigs) are graduating - BIG shoes to fill with Durley, Blair, Ellis gone.

I'm still not sure his system works in the Valley. But we have seen how well his system can work outside of it.

I was one who wasn't gonna be on suicide watch if Marshall had left. I'm good that he stayed, but he really needs to show that he is improving as a coach in the Valley next year to completely win me over. Valley teams have figured him out, now he needs to figure out how to counter.

If he can find a way to keep us in the top 3 next year I will be impressed.

Finishing in the Top 3 for the Shox next season should be achieved if they have a couple bigs that can fill in for their losses.

There is no clear-cut favorite next season. Maybe Creighton, but they don't seem too deep, and outside of their big 3 (GE, DM, AY), I don't see a lot of talent. The Valley will be filled with "good" teams, but I think we'll struggle to get an At-Large team...again.

I like Wichita St. chances among these teams who I think will be Top 5 heading into next season:

Indy St.
Creighton
Wichita
UNI
Drake
