Great Effort, Unacceptable Loss

From watching the game, a couple of things happened that are reasons we lost. Prosser had an off night. It was like someone oiled up his hands, because if he touched it it went where he didn't want it to-- ALL NIGHT. Also, one of their players dropped 29 on us. Unexpectedly. This happens to Bradley a lot, and I'll never understand it, but anyway, take away either of those things, and Bradley wins pretty easy. Not an excuse, and we shouldn't lose to this team at home.

Anyway, Geno had to lose sometime, but I, for one, liked his post game remarks.

I agree. As I said on the chat fish, this was a bad loss, but one that will occur occasionally with a young team that lacks depth. But no one here is excusing it (not directed at you fish) either. I said before the season that we have to reestablish our home court advantage. That's still a work in progress, but I believe we will exceed our home win total from last year.

But what set me off above (since no Geno critics were on the chat) are posters here who blindly rip on Geno because "he did not offer a firm message of what was expected of his team"! That's utter rubbish! To base a coaches ability on four games is not only offbase, it's not even feasible this early in his first year! To make blanket statements like "I'm not impressed with our new coach" sounds to me like sports talk radio at its worst! These are the type of people who call in after a bad loss. All fluff and emotion, but no substance!

Where has all of this "rallying behind the team in the face of adversity" been for the last 9 years? It's good to see the new regime has given some fans a realistic perspective, rather than looking for things to rip.

Go get those Badgers.

In no way am I "stabbing Geno in the back" for this loss. If the players make some freethrows, we probably win the game.

There are people elsewhere that believe we will not even be "close to being average" for at least three years. Just like this loss, that will be unacceptable as well.

This was not directed at you. My posts were directed mainly to the first two posters in this thread. I think it will not take us three years to be a competitive team, and I agree tonight's loss was unacceptable. But not unexpected with what Geno has to work with either. Things will get better though, and maybe even as early as late this season, if our starters don't get burned out.

On a positive note, I hope that Charonn Woods is getting a lot of academic scholarships. He has certainly earned the right to be compensated for his efforts as a Brave this year!

I agree Beni. This kid deserves a free ride one way or another. Just like Bradley took care of Willie Scott I hope they're taking care of Charron.

Agreed shaun. What's up with that? This team better learn to shoot their free throws soon or it will be a LONG MVC season. I like most everything else I see; Geno has really introduced an exciting brand of play. :)

And you're WAY out of line with your opinion here Gwright! See my above post. Guess what. WE WERE A LAST PLACE TEAM LAST YEAR! Let's see you wave your magic wand Gwright and make things better!

Didn't think so.

I'm going to waste 15 seconds of my life to respond to this.

Do two things, re-read what I said, and look up ad hominem.

Knock Knock

(Geno) Who's there?

Ben

Ben who?

After four games, 'been waiting to see some good baseline screens in your half court offense.

Was curious as to how people here would react after ONE loss. Must say this is pretty much exactly what I thought. The idea of a Coach Les supporter calling out someone for offensive sets and never changing anything up is laughable, especially after just four games. As for taking a step backwards because of fallout, how do you go backwards from last place? I suppose if we still had JL and SM we would be 4-0 instead of the terrible 3-1 we are right now, right?

You might be mistaken- I do not recall Beninator being a big JL supporter.
And we will lose more than just this game, because this team has some obvious flaws.
But I trust this staff will eventually get the job done with recruiting and coaching.

Just as predictable as people that say this is a last place team without mentioning the fact that the best player didn't play at all. Much like people would be all over the coach for letting one player go off like #10 did tonight.

FWIW, I have had serious questions about Geno since I saw our first game. My opinions have been among the minority on this board, but I have been consistent. I even gave the staff some praise after game 3.

Too bad that SM (a.k.a Basketball Theriot) didn't have a chance to take the last shot after the timeout and miss it.

But seriously, these are still Les players and we have to give Geno a chance to put his own team together.

For the record, I liked JL and thought that he should have been given one more year. That being said, I understood why JL was fired.

Like JL or any other Bradley coach for that matter, I very much want Geno to succeed. I know it is early, but I haven't been caught up in the hype and am concerned as to what I haven't seen so far. Hopefully for everyone involved, I am wrong!:)

There may be a couple who refuse to accept it, but Geno's team has to rely too heavily on a group of freshmen who just aren't ready to contribute. This is directly from the fallout from the coaching change. We lack the team leadership and we sorely lack outside shooting and point guard play of Sammy. And we could really use a solid rebounding defensive juco player like Sean Harris. But instead of having the talent to contribute and contend now, we'll continue to see games like this all year where this team is just too inexperienced and not a well rounded enough team.
I am confident Geno and the rest of the staff will get the players needed to contend, but as we all knew (or most did) we will take a step back for a while until the rebuilding can take place.

Enough with the fallout crap. Didn't the predicted fallout also include multiple guys transferring out? All but Sam are still here, right? Sam will be lucky to play 20-25 minutes a game this year. With Abell it looks like a we would be relying on a freshman who just isn't ready to contribute to quote you. And if Harris is this great a player why did he go back to juco and not straight to D1 from his mission? Sounds like your knocking our freshman. Didn't think that was allowed here. I thought that was for the misanthrope board.

The team finished in last place last year. How do you take a step back from that?

As I expected, there will be some who want to believe this team didn't suffer from the changes the coaching change resulted in. We lost a certain All-Conference point guard, and you want to contend there was no fallout. And if you want to believe this group of freshmen will contribute this year as much as a talented juco would, then go for it. But that's ludicrous. I am willing to be patient and give the new staff time, but there is no chance this year will be as successful as it would have been if everyone returned.
And nowhere have I ever "knocked our freshmen", but nice try.

You said our freshmen are not ready to contribute. Sounds like a knock to me.

Jucos are hit and miss. Even ones that come to Bradley. You have no idea how Harris would have done here. We all thought Thompson was going to be the next POB. How's that turned out?

Sam isn't, and won't be, completely healthy. Playable, but not healthy. If an All-Conference guard can average 20-25 minutes, that's a conference lacking guards.

Still haven't answered how you take a step back from last place.
