Also... how do they pick the coach? I'm not sure if Wainwright doesn't have some kind of legacy or something, but I feel like his DePaul teams have been pretty woefully coached the last few years.

There are some college kids already playing in international competition.........

A team playing under the banner of Athletes in Action is presently playing in a 10-team round robin
and over a nine day span will play NINE GAMES against each of the other opponents.
It is being held in Taipei, Taiwan.

Athletes in Action is coached by ex-St. Johns coach Mike Jarvis and has already lost their first game in somewhat of an upset (72-67 to Phillippines) and then won their 2nd game 108-68 to go 1-1.

The teams in the tournament are:

Yeah I think it kind of is a legacy...in that he's coached for US basketball in the past...the University Games if I'm not mistaken.

I sort of agree with your assessment of his coaching at DePaul. I still laugh when I think of that BU game last year...they were a tad bit underprepared defensively don't you think?

But that said, lets see what happens when he gets all his own recruits playing for him.

The group of American kids playing for Athletes in Action in an international 10-team tourney in Taiwan (see post just two slots above)
won their game yesterday to move to 2-1, beating Korea 79-65.
Korea has a 7-5 center named Seung-Jin Ha

In a bit of GOOD news for the Americans playing in Taiwan, the only team that Athletes in Action has lost to,
The Phillippine National Team, just suffered a very embarrassing and unexpected defeat to the team from Lebanon.
The Lebanese won it on a long, last second, buzzer beating three point basket, 65-62.
That drops them to 2-1 equal to the Americans' record. The tourney is a 10-team/9-game Full Round Robin.

Wednesday, the US/Athletes in Action team in Taiwan also suffered a very unexpected and disappointing loss.
They lost to Jordan 69-66 to fall to 2-2 in the 9-game competition.

They then played Lebanon on Thursday, winning 81-70 and pulling into a 2nd place tie overall in the tourney with a record of 3-2. Jordan has a 4-1 record.

They play today against Kazakhstan.

Evansville guard, Jason Holzinger, has been invited to tour with Athletes in Action and travel to Australia August 9, to play several games against teams that are in Australia's National Basketball League including the Sydney Kings and the Wollangong Hawks. The tour will also make stops in Tasmania and Perth, Australia.

Other players who will go with Holzinger are:
Notre Dame junior and Washington, Ind. native, Luke Zeller, Matt Hall (Texas-Pan Am), Jay R. Strowbridge (Nebraska), Josh Carter (Texas A&M), Wes Johnson (Iowa State), Jay Watkins (San Francisco), Jimmy Graham (Miami, Fla.), Ray Shafer (Oregon), and Michael Niemi (Southern Methodist). The squad will be coached by AIA staff member Eric Nelson.

The US team (AIA) goes to 4-2 with a win yesterday over Kazakhstan, 92-76.
The US team trailed 33-11 after the first quarter as Kazakhstan drained threes, but the depth of the US team finally took its toll.
The halftime score had the Americans trailing 44-36, but in the 3rd quarter the US rallied to take the lead briefly.
The 3rd quarter score still saw the US trailing 69-64, but then the AIA team ran away with the 4th quarter 28-9 to win by 14, 92-78.

Some of the current W-L records:

In international play, a team of American HS & college kids (U-19 National Team playing in the U19 World Championships) took on the Puerto Ricans.
DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright is coaching them.

The Puerto Ricans had some pretty good players including a top prep prospect Angel Garcia, but the Americans
whalloped them 117-79 with Garcia getting just 5 pts before fouling out in 14 minutes.
The Americans got double figures from 7 players including 16 pts & 10 rebs from K-State commit Michael Beasley.
Patrick Beverley had 10 pts. 7 assists, and Texas HS phenom DeAndre Jordan 14 pts, 14 rebs.

They now are 2-0 after a 91-75 exhibition win over China, then a 102-51 win in the first game vs. Africa.

Bad news, Kansas' Darrell Arthur was diagnosed as having a stress fracture in his lower left leg.

The US/Athletes in Action team has defeated Japan (108-83) to go 5-2. Japan falls to 1-6
Each team has two games remaining.

The US/AIA team has concluded play in the 10 team international event, and they lost their last two games to Taiwan (83-72) & Iran (91-74).

They end with a disappointing 5-4 overall record, good enough for 3rd place.
Jordan won with a 7-2 record, Taiwan was 6-3.

Thompson's Double-Double Leads USA To Gold At Global Games

With the USA Men's U19 World Championship Team in the midst of a tight gold medal contest in the Global Games Saturday night, 6-8 center and University of North Carolina sophomore Deon Thompson (Torrance, Calif.) took matters into his own hands and scored six points in a decisive 10-0 USA run that helped propel the team to an 86-72 victory. Thompson finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the USA wrapped up the Global Games with a perfect 3-0 mark and improved its overall exhibition mark to 4-0.

I doubt you will find Bradley listed anywhere now. But when Beverly was a junior, Bradley was recruiting his aggressively. I know all the coaches went to see him and liked him, but they liked another similar kid a little more, Osiris Eldridge. I recall talking to one of the coaches about which kid they would focus more of the recruiting on, and it wasn't Beverly. He was considered a bit of a ball hog with defensive liabilities, but after BU dropped off he improved himself greatly. He went on to have a monster senior season. Still, he had very few offers, until Arkansas offered after one of their other recruits dropped off.
BU was not successful at geting OE, either.
