I heard this while I was in Las Vegas on Sunday, but it was just reported in yesterday's newpaper in Atlanta-
Former Bradley center Mike Williams was shot multiple times early Sunday morning and remains in critical condition in an Atlanta hospital.
He started his college career at Cincinnati and played against Bradley as a freshman in the 7 overtime game, then transferred to Bradley and became a key part of the 1985-1986 undefeated MVC champion Braves, a team that went 32-3, and played in the NCAA tournament with Jimmy Les as the starting point guard, and Hersey Hawkins as a sophomore leading the team in scoring. He also had a brief stay in the NBA and played for the Atlanta Hawks, where he now lives.
Mike Williams was working as a security guard at a night club outside Atlanta, in Stone Mountain, GA. He was shot multiple times (reportedly at least 5 or 6 times, and possibly as many as 8 times) but survived. He is listed in critical condition, but there are other reports that he should recover.

He has been the subject of a few posts as what BU could use as a recruit....massive athlete!

Hope and pray for the best for Mike........

Hopefully he recovers 100% from this, he was a fun player to watch and seemed to be a nice guy , Stone Mountain is a really cool place to visit.

Here's hoping and praying for a full recover for Mike. He gave me many good memories during his playing career. Thanks Mike.

Sad to hear! I had a few chances to hang out with Massive Mike while at BU and he was totally a nothing but a nice laid back guy. I hope he has a quick recovery.

Massive Mike Williams provided me with so many memories... I cant get the image of him taunting the Drake players after Hawk made the spining shot off the 3/4 court pass at Drake out of my mind.

He was a fantastic player on a couple great BU teams. Get well.

Had a chance to meet and had a long talk with Big Mike and his Mom in the hotel lobby in Salt Lake City after the Braves beat Texas El Paso at the NCAA tourney. Praying he recovers from this.

Big Mike is truly a gentle giant- here is hoping he gets back to full health. One of my best buds on that team- He was a good friend during those years...

According to Coach Les on the post game show Massive Mike seems to be getting better. The team sent him a care package and Coach Les hopes to take a road trip with Dick Versace to see him and help him on his road to recovery. Get Well Big Mike!

JL has been doing some other stuff behind the scenes as well to assist the process- Glad to be a part of it..

Go Braves!

May the Good Lord bless Massive Mike and his recovery!

Anyone who grew up a Bradley fan in the 80's holds a special place in their heart for Massive Mike. It will be a long hard struggle I am sure to recover from such a horrific injury. Only someone with his strength could have survived 8 gunshot wounds. I am glad JL and Coach Versace were able to visit him. I know they passed along the sentiment of all BU fans that we wished we could be there to encourage him and that he was in our thoughts and prayers.

You said it the best and expressed all our wishes. Praying that Mike gets better soon and can come to a Bradley game later this season, so he can see the love we all have for him! For those that still have the Summer 2006 issue of the Bradley Hilltopics, check out page 31.

Go Braves!
