It looks like Bully will be getting a lot of playin g time.
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Killyan Toure underwent a successful surgery Friday morning for a right shoulder injury. After a successful summer session in Ames, Toure suffered the injury serving as one of the top 15 college counselors at Damian Lillard’s Formula Zero Elite Camp. Toure is expected to return to play in January.
“This is an unfortunate setback for Killyan,” Otzelberger said. “He has been an important part of our program and we’re looking forward to having him back for the second half of the season. Right now, our focus is on his health and recovery.”
Toure started all 37 games last season, tying the school record for starts by a freshman. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game last season, one of just 11 freshmen in the country to average those numbers. He was the 26th freshman in program history to start the season opener and the fourth under Otzelberger. He tallied 54 steals on the season, the fifth-most by a freshman in program history. Toure’s breakout game came against Creighton, where he scored 20 points in Las Vegas at the Players Era Championship. In his NCAA Tournament debut, Toure tallied 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against Tennessee State, becoming the first freshman in NCAA Tournament history to record those numbers in a game. The Cyclones went 16-1 in the games he reached double figures, 21-2 when he recorded multiple assists and 14-3 when recording multiple steals.
