Interestingly, in your own words you make the case for poor in game coaching... letting the team get too comfortable, leaving good 3 point shooters wide open in the corners, getting beat on back cuts non-stop, and just not playing smart basketball. Those are all coaching issues. I'm not saying and never said Wardle is a bad coach. No, he's a decent coach that seems to have some deficiencies and limitations that a real good coach in a program for 10 years should not.
As much as I support Coach Wardle and would HATE to see him go anywhere else, I see your point.
I think we've done pretty well at adjusting when other teams get hot from outside (aside from the UIC game at home) and last night.
I can't remember the last game where we didn't foul a 3-point shooter, and most times it's pretty blatant.
Meta also gets called 1 or 2 times each game with an illegal screen, and Hannah every other game. You'd think those would become minimal as the season progresses. Not taking shots at the coaching staff, but we can be critical as fans while loving our team.
Not sure what happened last night, but the 2nd half wasn't indicative of how we've played this season for a full 2nd half, and I think Hannah's absence affected our continuity and maybe toughness. We had a few guys who aren't used to being in the game for so long (Burch, Timo, and Meta) and you could see them struggle in the 2nd half when we normally are able to maintain a lead.
The one thing about this season's team that was kind of baffling is that we rarely did put together 2 solid halves of basketball, as mentioned by many on here, yet we won a TON of games!
I'm hoping next season we are more consistent, but we have some freshmen who will make their share of mistakes. The turnovers HAVE to get better, as that burned us in the last 2 losses. The rebounding this season was good at times but not the usual outrebounding the other team more times than not.
If we can tighten up turnovers and not allowing so many offensive rebounds in close games, we should do well next season. Sigh - it's hard to let go of the season, but we have a lot to look forward to, ladies n gents!!!
