Final: Bradley 77 Tulane 72

I was lucky enough to be back in Peoria tonight and really enjoyed going to the game. Great team effort with some great shooting. WE showed up to play tonight! Frustrating seeing Timmons take us to the hoop every time cuz our guys weren't staying down on D but we still overcame.

Anyone else convinced Tulane still pulled a switcharoo late in the second half on the free throw after the time out despite the refs review?

I was at the game. A brilliant, slightly unnoticed move by Geno to disrupt the momentum and rhythm Tulane was building by notifying the officials about the wrong guy at the line after about a 1to 2 minute stoppage of play and sure enough he finally missed the next free throw...after that the mo turned our way the rest of the game great experienced move by Geno

Why the confusion about who our next opponent will be? I mean, can't anyone find a link to the tournament bracket? Wait, there is no bracket? Why not? Exactly.

I wasn't sure myself who was the guy who was fouled since it happened in a mass of bodies under the hoop - so it did appear that the request by Geno might have gained an extra benefit of freezing the FT shooter - they didn't miss very many all night but Timmons missed the front end of a 1-and-1 after that delay.

Two other areas where I thought Geno's game prep is to be lauded...
- by going immediately down to the low post right from the opening tip it forced the Tulane coach to call a time out and regroup as he had obviously geared his entire defense to doubling the ball up high and trying to take Walt & DSE out of the game - but by going right down low - immediately Will Egolf & Tyshon found open opportunities....so we scored a bunch early on- we had 10 pts in the first 2.5 minutes and were still on a 100 pt pace well into the 1st half. Also notice the unusually high number of assists our guards got feeding the lowpost - this is something that definitely made a difference against a decent team with a lot of athleticism-
- he got Ka'Darryl & Jalen more minutes than they've had recently - maybe partially because of Walt's hip ailing and partially due to fouls - but regardless those guys added key production in their minutes.
Now we need to get some minutes for Nate!

Boy the Valley sure is down. 3 still dancing in the CIT and just possibly the biggest win since we beat Kansas and Pitt in '06. Way to go WSU. Now if only CU.... I hate it when were down like this.

Having teams dancing in an EIEIO tournament makes a strong conference? Many don't want the Braves to even go to this kind of tournament.

It feels good to win these games, but it would feel a lot nicer if they were NIT games.
I recall a few years ago when the MVC was ranked ahead of some of the BCS conferences in RPI. This year they were 9th. Even last year the MVC was higher (8th). Considering where we have been, 9th is not an improvement.

Rankings don't mean Jack squat to me if it did we wouldn't have to play the games. They are very subjective to say the least. I still think from top to bottom our league is much better than it's been.Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't our last place team win more games than our last place team the previous year. Yes we only have two real good teams but the bottom 4 did beat some of the top 4 teams. Ask the Zags what they think about the Valley. Finally the CIT found a way to get rid of Valley teams, pit them against each other b4 the finals.lol

DC, I think it would feel alot nicer if they were NCAA games but what Geno was left with it's gonna take a few more years. I do think we are headed in that direction and we may be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel with a great recruiting spring. Now lets go take care of UNI.

Being you had to bring up the past, 'what Geno was left with', it's funny how the previous coach was blamed for padding his record by playing in these EIEIO tournaments but now it's ok. I'm all for playing in any post season tournament no matter who the coach is. Keep it going Geno.

Chico you will NEVER find any posts from me blaming JL for padding his record playing in these 3 and 4 tier Tourneys. I've ALWAYS been for playing after the regular season is over no matter what tourney it is. I'm guilty of using "what Geno was left with" trying to justify why we're playing in an EIEIO field. I've been to both games and would have been there Tues had it been a home game. Did they help JL get to 20 wins when things were starting to unravel? Yes IMO it did but I was all for playing in them. I've alwys felt if you can extend your season,do so but do so to win it.

I like our chances this time. We are definitely playing better and seniors don't want to go down. Plus it's harder to beat a team 3 times

That is true for two equal teams..... these are not two equal teams. Good teams usually beat bad teams 3 times in a year. That will be the case here.
I never understood the theory of beating a team three times. Much better team wins, One, Two or Three times !! This is a much better team. I predict BU loses by 15-20 points.

Always have thought the same way. This would be a huge upset, but let's hope the Braves can pull it off. The first game in Cedar Falls this season still gives me nightmares.

I have to agree with you here Rick. Even if we lose by 15, I will not be terribly disappointed due to the relative success of the season, and the fact that UNI had our number this season and is a very solid team.

We protected our home court very well, increased our competititeness, implemented better offensive schemes, and a couple key guys have improved as the year has progressed (Pickett & Bell). What more could you ask for expect maybe replaying those final 5 games of the regular season & the game in St. Louis?

The home teams have a huge advantage in these tournaments.

In the NIT, the home teams are 16-5 so far.

In the CIT, the home teams have gone 18-5 so far.

In the CBI, the home teams went 6-2 in the first round. The 2nd round games are tonight.
