Final: Augustana 58 Bradley 56

I would say we are missing our two most important players (barnes and Sutherland) but our bigs have zero offensive presence and outside creativity is slim to nil. Not a top 6 valley team lucky to get out of Thursday.

We will see though. Long season things can and will change.

with the supposed "size", "depth". and "talent" we have in the paint - our entire collection of BIG guys
were :
2-12, 6 pts, ZERO assists, and probably 10-12 turnovers

our three-headed mix of pgs (Fields/Bell/Jones) were 7 asst and prob 6-8 TO

is there anyone else who doesn't think we need a total startover and not with the same people picking the staff...

Just got home, and I won't belabor the obvious- Augustana is a small, unathletic team that would easily finish in last place if they were in the MVC.

This loss, IMO is the worst and most embarrassing loss I can recall. Bradley never lead, and was outhustled, outplayed, and outcoached from start to finish.
Maybe things will get better when Barnes and Sutherland return, but those are not exactly 1st team All-MVC players, so I don't see them making an enormous difference. The crowd was very small, maybe the smallest home crowd I've ever seen except the Creighton Snow game.
And just as I cited in the open practice- this team is not a good shooting team, not a good ball handling team, a poor passing team, the big men can't score, and the guards are average at best.

It's incredible to believe there are some people who think we are better off without Walt Lemon.

BTW, official attendance listed as 5,406, but I'd estimate 2,400-2,500 tops. There were also at least 300-400 Augustana fans there.

A couple stats that stand out-
Bradley had just 16 points in the paint, and most were by the guards on drives. I can only recall 1 basket scored by one of our big men in the paint. Bradley had the height, and skill advantage, yet I never quite could see what we were trying to do on offense. There was almost no effort to get the ball down low to any of the big men. Between them, Cunningham, Morgan, Shaw, and Taylor scored just 6 points among them. And just 7 total assists for the game.

We really struggled. No flow, the guys looked like they had no cohesiveness. Or confidence. Could have been partially due to the incredibly frequent substitution pattern. They have some time to improve but they also have a lot to improve on.

It is just an exhibition, though it's hard not to cringe at the results. I think they'll get better, but from what I saw tonight, this team is flawed, and not very talented. Again we've been fooled by the media hype that we brought in all this great talent. I don't see any way we avoid Thursday night again.

Postgame odds and ends:

Band was great. Highlight of the game.

The stomp thing was interesting. I admire those girls for their efforts.

The announcer guy during timeouts is a good idea but he really doesn't have the voice for the job.

Zach McCallister was there.

Good to see the Wacohi guys do well. Those two have worked their tail off. When Washington Middle School got 2nd in state in 8th grade, Ben Ryan wasn't even a starter.

Concession prices still insane.

First off props to Augustana. I thought that was as good a movement I've seen from an offense in a while. They kept making the extra pass and converting. They also seemed to get to just about every loose ball. Tonight just seemed like more of the same. No spacing on offense and when we did have guys open we'd throw a bad pass. Lots of isolation and not finishing. Too many missed FT's. Too many guys on Augustana getting open looks from 3. Minus 11 assist to turnover ratio. I could go on and on but I'd like to get some sleep tonight. I did think Thomas and Jones looked the best of the newcomers. Getting back Barnes will certainly help but I sure hope that Sutherland is the man that everyone has said he is or it's going to be another Thursday in St. Louis.

This team looks like it will finish 8,9 or 10 in the Valley. Poor defense, missed free throws, poor offense, bad passes, and out hustled on rebounds by a smaller opponent. Mike Shaw's presence does not help. Many of our shots were taken by a player that was not balanced when taking his shot. I think the thing that was most annoying was the poor decisions made by many of the players. I do not think you can fix that with this team.

The only thing I'm gonna say is I wasn't sick when I got there but I sure was sick after watching that fiasco. I will give credit where credit is due. Grey did a great job with kids that I'm sure none had any D-1 offers or at least none by us. Thought our guards were acceptable, less one used only to foul in the last minutes. Liked Thomas ,inside people will be on milk cartons tomorrow. Oh well only one way to go.

Office do the president

I recently sent an email to the office of the president commenting on why I would ever pay ticket maintenance for such sub standard performance. In was told of what a great year it was going to be. It is time for change. Anything would be better than a D IIi defeat. She is no longer in touch

Sorry but cross must go geno must go and they must start over immediately. We r a minimum of 5 years from a team that can compete m

If anyone needs tickets to a game please private message me. Mine will be in the garbage
