Illinois Prep Bulls-eye has learned through reliable sources that 6'8 Carlton Fay from Putnam County High School in Granville, IL and a player who was instrumental in the 17-under Wolves' tournament run at the King James Classic, is on the verge of committing to Chris Lowery and Southern Illinois University. We are hearing that this could happen any time in the next few days, possibly as early as tomorrow

Interesting.

I am no Roy or Harv Schmidt (the guys who run Illinois Prep Bullseye) but I have heard that since Fay had such an impressive showing at the King James Classic, he has gotten calls from a couple new schools trying to get in on his recruiting. If, by some chance, he holds off issuing a committment, it might be because a Big Ten school is calling.

speaking of the King James classic, the final is on FSN right now

Greyhounds are dominating Thriple Threat

The Schmidt brothers who run the ilprepbullseye site love to pat themselves on the back and toot their horn whenever they get something right. But they have been wrong lots of times, with the biggest blooper being their announcement that Sherron Collins had decided for Illinois, a statement they quickly removed from their site and never mentioned again.

But why would Fay wait until he has a couple good performances, with lots of AAU play ahead....and he can't possibly sign a LOI until next fall, then declare now?
I personally think he will wait to see if his summer action picks up a little more attention from other programs. If he wants to go to SIU, trust me they'll be waiting for him in Novenber just as they are now, so it doesn't make sense to declare now.

The only thing I have heard about Fay, is that he wants to stay somewhat close to home. I have heard that Stallings and Vandy want Fay very badly, but Fay has told them that the travel around the SEC is too much for his parents to make.

Not sure why the topic is there, but the Illini premium Rivals message board (The Orange Obsession) has a thread about Carlton Fay.
One guy with only a handful of posts claims he has heard Fay will announce for SIU "in the next few days", but nobody else seems to be able to confirm.

Carlton Fay 6'8 Jr. PF Granville (Putnam County) Illinois Wolves
We stated previously that Fay was ready for a breakout spring and summer and after watching him at King James he is undoubtedly well on his way. Fay has a game that is quite reminiscent of former Purdue Boilermaker Brian Cardinal. Fay has tremendous offensive versatility, as he can post up and score around the basket in addition to being able to step outside and consistently knock down shots from beyond the arc. He has a strong body that he utilizes to his advantage on the boards. An extremely hard worker who doesn't back down from anybody. We have extremely reliable sources telling us that a verbal commitment to Southern Illinois University could be forthcoming any day now.

Sounds just like a lot of the kids SIU gets. Tough/physical bruisers.

Watching the summer league games last year Fay impressed me the most when it came to the "bigs". I know it was a limited sample and some may question my observations, but I really liked his game. The only other "big" I liked was Ping and I thought Fay was ahead of him. BTW, I haven't heard anything regarding Ping lately. Anybody have any news?

I think that article is wrong and it is Evan Turner(St. Joes) and not T.J. Marion that will be the 3rd teammate attending.

that would make more sense, I thought it was weird that TJ would go since he graduated and everyone else is still in h.s.

wonder how close we were in getting this kid? maybe he will change his mind and want to play closer to home. he hasn't signed yet. we could probably use him this year.

No doubt he would play more this year if he was at Bradley that he will at SIU. Maybe Jim Les can call Kelvin Sampson and get some tips on how to steal a recruit. :D
