I guess Remy never received the report card. ;)

Bradley
Hire: Geno Ford
Replaced: Jim Les
Grade: A
Comments: Considering the recent struggles of Braves basketball, athletic director Michael Cross deserves commendation for luring Ford away from Kent State. The Flashes won 25 games in Ford's final season at KSU, and all but one player, Rodriquez Sherman, is set to return this fall. Bradley, on the other hand, finished 12-20, light years away from a one-off run to the Sweet 16 in 2006. In other words, it's easy to see why Ford would have wanted to stay at Kent State for at least one more profile-boosting season. That he didn't is something of a coup.

Only time will tell how accurate these grades are, but IMO, Fairfield deserves a better grade than a B+ for hiring Sydney Johnson.

Sweet! Some positive comments about BU for a change. They hit the nail on the head with that analysis, that's for sure!

They don't, because there's approximately a 1% chance he stays more than 2 or 3 years. He's going to bigger and better things. They're either going to be coach hunting in 3 years or, if they're not coach hunting, that'll mean massive on-court disappointment.

these are the same guys who gave Tennessee an A+ and drooled like crazy over how great a hire Bruce Pearl was -- what do they know...

You sound like you don't approve of their rating on Geno's hiring. Let's hope they're right on this one.

Why can't you be happy that the top sports network in the country gave our team a compliment? We now have one of the best coaches in all of Indiana ;)

Bruce Pearl could have really worked out for TN, in hind sight it didn't but at the time his sleaze factor was unknown.

I did not post this as to have a down and out discussion on if this hire was the best thing since slice bread but that others find it as something positive. Imagine that? The Royal wedding and ESPN saying something good about BU. Fairy tales do come true.

I'd say execution of firing is an F.

I'd say choice of firing is a solid D+ to a C-....JL did have injury issues he had to deal with more, it seemed, than anyone else, but in the end his conference record can't just be flat out ignored. His recruiting is something I'm worried about...we may miss it, but time will tell.

Hiring choice based on performance to date I'd say is a B+ to A-...being able to keep Remy would've bumped it to an A+. It seems he's been working hard recruiting and trying to keep some old connections that would be beneficial. Most of the team stayed and that is important also....

Now if we add in the manner in which Ford was hired.....j/k

Average would be C- to a C. This for me seems about right I wasn't happy when JL was fired but I don't feel very worried, yet, about Geno being the new head coach..as a matter of fact up to this point I'm pretty optimistic to see what he can do 3-4 years down the road.

I would say that this is a pretty centrist opinion of the situation. Many people would generally agree with this.

Can I honestly ask what was wrong with the execution of the firing? I've heard this referenced as a sore spot but nobody has really spelled it out for us simpletons. Not trying to start anything just something I've been wondering. Feel free to PM me if its something that can't be posted

Pretty much exactly where I'm at. Very well put.

Nail on the head. Couldn't agree more, but time to move on.

I will say the same thing that I would say to those who automatically think this was an "A" hire (including myself because I do believe Geno will do very well here). If we don't know for sure if Ford will be a great coach here, then how do we know he will do as poorly as you two believe he will as well?

My point is, why don't we wait until the next few seasons plas out before we dismiss a new coach who hasn't even coached one game here yet?!

Well you seem to be grading Ford almost solely on how the Les firing was handled? I don't find that a fair assessment, and I believe Ford's grade should be based solely on his hiring only and his coaching potential.

And by the way, back to Les one second since you brought this up Bguy10. I don't think it was fair that Les was fired based on the injury bug he had to endure this year. Sure, his previous 8 season record played a role in the firing, but to fire someone who dealt with more adversity than most other D1 coaches is a bit harsh IMO. I would have definitely given Les one more year to see what he could do with a veteran, injury free team, but I'm also a big Ford fan and am looking forward to see what he can do this year as well. Just my two cents.
