ESPN.com's Power Rankings: Week 4

Do a search for RPI and let me know how theads come back!

And Shaunguth you can think anything you want about it. Some schools just don't like to "pimp" themselves out to the Big Boys. Your okay with it.

Yes...I'm glad we "pimp" ourselves out every great once in awhile for the opportunity to get a Michigan State to come to town. You'd think a school that doesn't do so well with attendance wouldn't refuse those chances.

And yes....I do think it's ridiculous to have a policy to refuse such opportunities.

Do another search and let me know where I've ever said the RPI is reliable this early in the season.

Never said you did shaunguth. I believe the term I used was "you guys".

Well that is just sad that you put a team like Michigan State and the Big Boys on such a pedestal.

I guess some people are just happy being Mid Majors. I'm not thrilled with the schedule, but in the same instance I am glad we didn't have to become someone's b**** just to get a single home game either.

I am proud of you. It only took you what 4-5 posts to toss in the attendance thing. :D I am sure it was just eating you up inside wanting to get that "shot" in.

Feel better? :-D

Why wouldn't we accept the occasional 2-1 deal with a team like Michigan State? Honestly, I'm kinda surprised you feel the way you do. Actually it wasn't eating me up. However, I did find it rather funny how "you guys" are already making excuses for tonight's attendance before the game even takes place. Again, you'd think a program in that position wouldn't mind taking the occasional 2-1 deal.

Please stop the nonsense! If you think it's better to schedule like ISU did rather than like the other schools in the MVC, then encourage Jank to keep it up.
I guess you think Gonzaga "pimps" themselves out to the big boys too?

I would think ISU fans would have learned their lesson last year. Your weak schedule cost you a chance at an at-large bid despite 25 wins, and this year may be the weakest schedule in anyone's memory.

Here are the RPI's and records of the teams ISU has played. They are 8-0, and after their first 10 games, they still will not have played a team with a winning record. The Strength of Schedule is 332nd in the country. If anyone thinks this is better than playing good teams, then they are in denial. ISU has a very good team, but they better hope they win the MVC tournament, because they aren't getting an at-large bid with their schedule and SOS. The NCAA in recent years has shown they won't take a team with an RPI higher than 40 from a midmajor conference, and currently ISU's RPI is 142!

Here is the RPI rankings, and it's interesting to note that there are only 2 teams with an RPI higher than 72 that are still undefeated, and one of them in ISU at 142.

I'm not defending ISU's schedule. It's just nice to take a stand against the Big Boys. It's not bad enough they get the majority of the At-larges, now we are allowing them to schedule anyway they really want with the Mid majors. And you guys are fine with it. That is what is sad. It's like your okay with not being on the same footing as the Big Boys. At some point you have to say "enough is enough".

You guys are always pointing out how the NCAA doesn't punish the Bigs the same as the Mid's or lowers. And why should they? Heck we let them get away with scheduling with us anyway they want.

What's next? Maybe the Bigs can host their first round games on their home courts in the Big Dance. (Cut down on travel for their players and fans in the process)

And the Zags have pretty much overcome this. They just signed a 2 for 2 with the Illini. ( 1 in Champaign, 1 in Chicago, 1 in Seattle and 1 at the Zags.) Do you the Illini would ever offer that deal up to BU? Or SIU or ISU? Not a chance in heck. To get where the Zags are today, they had to take the whole "we will play anyone anywhere, anytime" attitude.

I would think, or should I say, I would hope a conference with the history the MVC has it wouldn't have to go that route. But I guess it does.

It seems only Creighton can get away with it. As they seem to have little problem getting teams to play them on equal footing. They still can land the elite programs on equal terms though.

It hasn't always been like this for the MVC either.

I am sorry if the whole "pimping" thing came out wrong. I am just tired of all the hoops the Bigs make us go thru. And then when they finally give us a 2 for 1 or something like that, it's like they are doing us a favor or something.

Sorry, I am off my soapbox.

Also I could care less of current RPI's. They mean nothing now. Evansville just moved up a spot with a home win over Ball State. They currently reside at #5 in the RPI. Case closed on the that. Give it another month, or atleast a few more weeks. Then it have more than enough data to make it more reliable, IMO.
