Duke vs. Butler

tornado

I ran across a few articles saying that Duke and Butler have a lot in common...
http://www.toledoonthemove.com/sports/story.aspx?id=439341

but do they really....
I think they are about as different as Duke and Drake or as different as University of Notre Dame and Notre Dame High School.

But regardless.......does anyone know the last time TWO private schools with enrollments this small (well under 10,000) battled in the title game??

--the last time two private schools met was 1985, Georgetown & Villanova, but both have enrollments over 10,000...

--You have to go all the way back to 1955 (San Francisco beat LaSalle) to find two small private schools, but even then, USF had an undergrad enrollment larger than Duke has (around 7,000)

--The year before, in 1954 when LaSalle beat Bradley is quite possibly the LAST TIME two schools with enrollments under 6,200 played in the Championship game.
(Duke's total enrollment of about 12,000 includes 6,000 graduate students, so their undergrad enrollment is only about 6,200)

.,..so I wonder if this will signal the anti-private school folks to demand a multiplier or some other penalty be imposed on the private schools? ;)

I would say Duke would be "grandfathered" into not being penalized just based on their basketball history and conference affiliation. ;) But it would be very interesting if a team like Bradley, Creighton or Gonzaga makes a similar type run next year. Who knows what the NCAA "gestapo" would do to "penalize" them next year. :D

Well just about 90 minutes to go before tip-off time. I don't know if this is a bad omen, but the Indianapolis area just got clocked with some severe t-storms and tornado warnings. Hopefully that weather passes by just in time for the game. I remember back to the SEC tournament a few years back where the tornado passed right over the stadium!

Looking threatening here just north of Chicago as well. Hopefully I can keep the signal during the game, or I will just watch it online.

Anyway, I am rooting for Butler to finish the job, but it admittedly will be tough. Great run for Butler regardless of the outcome tonight.

For one night, I will be rooting for the BU that is in Indiana rather than the one that ESPN thinks is in Indiana.

Halftime: Butler 32, Duke 33.

WHAT A GREAT GAME!! :)

That it is! So far that Duke blowout that many have expected has not come to fruition as of yet. Let's hope BU can pull this out!

On a side note, it's a good thing I got rid of the satellite to save some money. If I had the dish, I would have lost half the game due to the heavy storms going through right now! Got some lightning interferance going on, but otherwise I have a clear signal going on what is easily my strongest channel. Obviously cable would be the best, but I'll take what I have now. Thankfully the power has not gone out due to all the lightning strikes in the area.

Not Good--- Butler's Matt Howard just picked up his 3rd foul with 17:21 to go 2nd half.

Edit: Howard comes in for about 30 seconds, and picks up his 4th foul.

Butler is going to need Heyward to step up if they want to win. I'd have him get the ball and start driving until they play him for that and then step out and shoot. Other words the ball needs to start going through him most possessions.
