Dse

I can't agree with what you're saying BUfan14. Let's just start the best players.... Period! It really doesn't matter who's a senior and who's not. That philosophy would have kept John Wall, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and other great freshmen on the bench.

That's not what I'm saying though. First of all DSE will start on the bench but still get significant minutes. Second what I'm saying is I don't think DSE is better than SM, DD, or AW at this point. I think even if they are equal at best then those 3 deserve to start before DSE. Basically if DD=DSE then I would start DD because he has earned his spot as a senior. I think those 3 are better and more experienced than DSE right now, but that he is good, will be a big contributor, and will be a future starter and star. So are disagreement is not on that the best players should play, because I agree with that, but on who the best players are at this point in time. Also I said it is their spots to lose, meaning if DSE is better than they will lose it to him.

He'll be a Jr., don't see looking for a pg as recruiting over anyone.

Well, DSE is a freshman and appears to have already passed up EM. Next year has to be 'The Year' or else it's never happening with this regime (I am resigned to the fate that the staff returns). That tells me that if they're going for a PG they're going for a JUCO guy that can play right away, which would mean that they're recruiting over EM.

Personally, I would probably prioritize my recruting as JUCO big, JUCO pg, and John Wilkins. We need a couple of holes filled, and a couple of good JUCO's could fill those gaps. We still have a great foundation of 4 year players, so I don't mind the JUCO stopgaps in this scenario. I know we currently only have 2 scholies but I am pretty confident one will open up after this year. One always does.

I think he can develop into the role. I don't think he is ready right now, but I doubt many freshman are. I said yesterday, he is a good mix of SM and EM. I just dont think teams really plan for him and I like bringing him in like we do.

I think he def. fills a niche for BU. No way is he a point though

OK...I guess I see your point. Don't agree 100% but no problem. I also wouldn't go Juco with BOTH scholies. We allready have a Juco like recruit coming in with DD and IF Wilkins comes another allthough technically he gets 3 years. (Like many I am not counting on him)

I would agree that DSE is more of combo guard rather than a true pg. I see him as a player that can help break the press, get to the rim and distribute the ball, because he is on the floor with other guys that get the D's attention. IMO he is not ready or capable, right now, to handle the pressure of being THE guy to run the whole show. IMO he is not the pg while SM is here, and honestly I feel more comfortable with SM and EM handling the bulk of the pg duties. DSE serves us best by being that slashing guard, again right now.

Going juco would hurt our program down the road in that we would lose too many players in the next 3 years, Wilkens would be fine as he has 3 years but we need 1 more freshman to join Prosser in next years class.

DSE has the potential to be the best point guard we've seen in decades. He's a slasher first, penetrate-and-kick guard, second. If his jumpshot ever develops I think he'll be a pro prospect. I may be in the minority here, but Will Egolf is developing quite nicely. Imagine him with 15 additional pounds of muscle. Both of these guys will end their careers as first team all MVC...book it.

DSE with a jumpshot would be unfair to opposing defenses and make BU an instant MVC title contender.

DSE has quickly become one of my favorites, but I hope everyone can see how well SM has been playing the last few games. It would take an awful lot for me to replace a healthy SM in the starting lineup. Does anyone know for sure or not, if SM is indeed 100% or at least 90%? I know earlier in the year he was getting bagged on pretty hard by some. I even thought at one point in the non-conference season that it would be better to just shut him down until the MVC season.

DSE is the best pure talent the team has at PG as when he is in and has the ball in his hands, he makes everyone on the floor better.

The only real problem I see is that next year he really needs to get more minutes, but where does the push Sammy or Andrew or even Dodie being back?

I hate the 3-guard system and like it even less if Sam is playing the 2, even it looking more natural to him as it puts the team in a precarious position defensively...

UNI has worked it pretty well playing both Moran and Farokmanesh, but Moran is much better defensively than Sammy and they also have their two bigs inside to help out with Koch being a premier on ball defender.

So really, if we give DSE more minutes next year, I feel like it needs to be mainly at the expense of Sammy if we can not find a way to play a bigger frontline than 6'4", 6'6", 6'9"...

We could use a solid 4....

Like say someone who is 6'7" or 6'8" and about 230 but agile...

Don't know who that would be, but we need a glass man...someone who rebounds and defends inside the 12 ft. area...

I can easily see Dyricus playing the point. He is a good ball handler, distributes well and has the ability to drive the lane and either pass or have a solid shot. He also is good with the outside shot, making him a difficult matchup for any opponent.

I could conceivably see Dyricus moving past Sam M. next year at the point. As stated previously, Sam has shown he is the same player whether starting or off the bench. The ability for Dyricus to stress opposing defenses with his quickness, as well as his own defensive and rebounding abilities, would be more useful as a starter.

There are only two things we have not seen from DSE, the outside shot and the ability to bring the ball up with pressure. That does not mean he can't shoot or bring the ball up. If we look at the other parts of the game that we have seen he absolutely has the talent to start above EM, SM and DD. He defends as well as DD, he drives to the basket better then all 3 to finish, he rebounds as well as EM, is taller then SM and EM and brings an intensity that this team needs. I'm not sure if after a summer of working out and the drive this guy seems to possess if he can be denied. He has the biggest upside to any player on the team and that type of talent just has to be on the floor as soon as he gets his bearings 100% straight on what JL wants from him. He has the talent to start this year but is still a bit tentative out there but once he can start reacting instinctively instead of reactionary we'll see our next great player.

I also do not see EM ever leaving BU. He'll also continue to work hard and be a tremendous part of BU legend once his senior year roles around. He is doing pretty well academically and I have never seen anyone remotely ran off from this team who also bust their tale off in the class room. I hope that BU stands for more then a basketball school but one that stresses the importance to a fine education. If our guys give it their all on the court and do well as citizens and students, the majority of BU alums are extremely happy!

Not sure if you were at BU when Hawk was a freshman SFP but Hawk came to BU as a high school post player with limited ball handling skills. I'd say he developed pretty well with a little hard work;)

Yo, you know I was there:-P and loved it! I'm not even saying he does not have those skills now, it's just that he has not displayed them yet. I love it that he looks to drive and dish first and if not head all the way in if they do not double up. Can you imagine what type of player he'll be when you have to guard him tight from the 3! Unstoppable folks! That is why he will start next year! No one has that ability on the team to do it all. No one!:-o

BTW...He handles the ball better then HH did his freshmen year but HH showed that he had a pretty good jumper.

Idk I think DSE has proven his shot pretty effectively for a freshmen. Just from memory I can recall a number of big 3's that he has made at the beginning of the season. And looking up his stats...in 12 games 41.5% from the field, 30.8% from 3, and even 50% on ft's. He's avg. 2.2 rebounds a game, 1.6 assists per game, and 4.3 pts. I'd say that's pretty good shooting and filling the stat sheet for a freshmen that has only recently taken over pg minutes. I think he's shooting fine and he definitely has the most upside I think of anyone playing at the moment.
