When Porter Moser was fired - how many players asked out?

The truth is you are WRONG -- most midmajor kids DO not leave -- most don't have the talent, prowess, or whatever you want to call it to expect they get any more playing time anywhere else......
With as many coaching changes as there's been in the past few years in the Valley -- I really can't think of ONE where someone asked out before the next coach was hired...
Not P'Allen -- he was dismissed, not OE -- he considered it but stayed....
So you are wrong -- in the Valley it is a strikingly unusual phenomenon already happening twice in the two weeks since JLJ was fired.


and Veve get off your high horse..I want the best coach and want to win more than you or anyone else...and I prove it with my loyalty and support...........nice try -- but you'll have to look elsewhere for someone to blame...

Prior to Martin being hired at MSU, the players were told they would not be granted releases until the coach was hired, and the release would be Martin's to give. Martin met with each player and gave them a certain amount of time to come back and ask for a release. I believe two players asked for and were granted releases. There were four seniors, and three (rumored 4th Juco hadn't signed) incoming recruits in which only one committed with the team following Martin's hire (Rhine).

As a fan who has gone through this I wouldn't worry too much. It is tough letting some of the kids you've grown to like go, but it is better to give the coach the schollies to go after his kind of guys.

If Brown can play and he stays, and say Simms Edwards changes his mind with the hire, then your probably a few JUCOs and couple of lucky breaks from doing some good stuff again.

My 2 cents, hire Mark Montgomery of Michigan State. Young guy who has paid his dues at the big school, he's battle tested has learned under the best, and has recruiting ties near your school. I think Bradley is focusing too much on names they know and guys with head coaching experience.
 
To me, this sounds like DSE is just annoyed that we don't yet have a coach. He wants to know what direction BU is headed so he can decide what he wants to do.
 
We just need to hire a coach. Plain and simple. Once this gets done, there will be a much more stable outlook to this program. I'm surprised SM left before we hired someone, but considering his relationship with JL and the grad program at U of I, I can see why he did. But DSE? Get a coach hired, and then we'll see.

If this goes another week, I'm going to really start doubting our admin's ability to make this decision a good decision.

I don't believe this is exactly true. I know DSE loves Bradley and would like to stay, but he, like all the players, are not being told anything, and are being kept hanging. Kind of like when you are "on-hold" for 30 minutes, and you don't know whether you should just hang up and try something else, or waste more time staying on hold.
The longer things drag out, the less time these players will have to make a decision for their own futures, and you can't blame them for wanting to keep options open. Dyricus is a tremendous kid, and he would be a huge loss for Bradley. I just hope the right people know this, and do the right things.

Agreed. I'm not in 'panic mode', but I can understand how uncertainty and ambiguity would be irritating and potentially off-putting. Let's get it done, and get it done right.

That's what I'm hoping will happen with whomever the new coach is. He can keep some of the core here and fill in a few holes with some JUCO's, and hopefully we can at least keep one or two of JL's new recruits as well.

You are absolutely right that things may not be that bad here in the next year or two. But it is still "high risk, high reward" so to speak, and there is an equal chance we can be in a complete rebuilding mode for a couple or three years here. But there still is a good shot that next year may be a nice surprise too, but we need the right hire to accomplish this, whomever it may be.

Yes, I hope we get a new coach in here within the next week at the most. If they are waiting to talk to people from the teams still playing, fine but they better make sure they get the person they want or we won't even have time to find an average coach!

This is troubling news to hear. I was hoping DSE would be one of the few who stuck around through the coaching change as a building block for the future. I would hope that he does wait for the new hire and then decide what is his best course of action.
 
If DSE leaves, does he have to get his tattoo changed? In all seriousness I hope this is just him looking at his options and when we make a great hire * here is hoping * he stays a Brave.

I am certain that the right people do know this, they don't care, and are way past doing the right, intelligent things...

It's funny watching some of the Les-haters trip over each other as they scramble towards the middle like children who cannot make up their minds... now that what so many predicted would happen is coming true...
 
Not surprising to hear. Not exciting to hear either. Hopefully we have a new coach hired soon and the players can make their decisions to stay or to leave and we can move on.

While this is true, he doesn't have the option of playing with the old coach, so if he leaves, he at least has some say in who his new coach is. I want DSE back as much, if not more, than the next guy. He's a friend of mine. I've known him for almost 4 years, since he went to Washington, and the guy is a class act. However, I can understand why he would want out in this situation. I think he's just weighing his options, which I can't blame him for. Until we know who the new coach is, I can't see him making a decision. I ultimately want to see him back, but I will wish him success wherever he goes.
