Drake's Rayvonte Rice arrested

along with Kurt Alexander for fifth degree theft. I honestly cannot remember a Drake player having been arrested recently. Or UNI for that matter. ISU and Iowa have owned the police blotter in the state of Iowa. Hate to see Rice make a bad choice.

Good to see Drake Athletics moving up to big time BCS school status..:roll:

well the rumors were out he was thinking of transferring...maybe he goes to Penn State....I mean the state penn:D

hey -- I think this kind of offense is stuff every kid does - walked out and didn't think he needed to pay --
this is not malicious harmful behavior, assaults, drunken bar-fighting-kind-of stuff..
I'd give him a few games penalty then another chance.........

This must be at least 20 players either suspended or dismissed at SIU in Lowery's reign...
and it was predictable since the discipline has been pretty soft.

If a student poster at Drakenation can be believed, each was caught with a package of socks.

That walks a real fine line between being criminal and just plain dumb. They were risking an awful lot to get very little. Hell, they probably spent more in gas money just to get out to Jordan Creek than the socks were worth.

Sounds like good material for our student section when Drake comes to town this winter. In fact, I would encourage a sock night, where every student in attendance gets a pair of socks....and are then encouraged to wave them in the air during the game.

Apparently someone on a rival board is getting behind this idea......

THEY STOLE SOCKS!!!!!!!!!

Red Alert better be ALL OVER THIS when Drake comes to town... socks need to be handed out to EVERY student in attendance!!!

Rayvonte Rice and Kurt Alexander have served their suspensions and have been reinstated to the team-

Coach Mark Phelps said Monday he was still weighing further disciplinary action for them, which likely will involve missing some early games.

I don't expect any further suspension from games to last too long. Drake plays Iowa State at home on November 15, and I would be surprised if he misses that important game.

wonder if he'd have had his suspension removed without missing a single game or practice had this occurred at other schools....

The final decision has been made on suspensions for Rayvonte Rice and Kurt Alexander following their arrests in August for theft.
They will both be suspended for Drake's exhibition game against Quincy, and their first game against Upper Iowa.
As predicted, they will be reinstated in time for Drake's 2nd game Nov. 15 against Iowa State.

so they won't miss any real D-I games?

"Phelps defended including the exhibition game as part of the suspensions.

“It’s the first two games on our schedule, bottom line. There will be tickets
sold and there will be fans in the stands,” he said."

So not to be negative nellie, but how is that different than what Taylor did by sitting out the red-white? I know he didnt commit a crime, but he was suspended for 1 game that was an exhibition as well.

Kurt and Tre will also miss tonight's intrasquad scrimmage as part of their punishment. I wonder which school's students will the first ones to throw packages of socks onto the floor during Drake's player introductions. My guess is the Iowa students on Dec. 17th.
