I think he might already know this, and I don't think he planned to play 4 guards. Unforseen circumstances sometimes dictate what you have to do.
Consider this- if Bradley had tried to play the entire game against Idaho State with just 2 or 3 guards maximum, then likely Dodie would not have played as much in the first half, and DSE would maybe have not seen the floor in the second half. But because they did, Bradley won that game.

Having Taylor Brown will not solve the 4 guard thing as he has to sit and rest during the game and he is only a soph with limited playingt time last year. We will see a lot of 4 guard line-ups this year and for many years to come. I am convinced that we will always see at least 3 guards all the time.
I'm actually shocked that Milos has not been made into a 5 player. (LOL) He is over 6'7" you know.
My trust in what is going on at the hilltop is getting close to an all-time low as every season lately is just a replay of the season before. I almost did not go to the game Sunday because I thought... What I am going to see against Idaho St.? My answer: what I have seen before... get out-rebounded, beat off the dribble, watch the other team have a layup drill a good part of the game, watch BU jack up 3's and barely beat a low D1 team from a sub-par conference. Guess what, I went anyway because I have been a fan since I was a kid, but I saw exactly what I expected. I hope the future is brighter.

That's basically saying Taylor Brown is the only PF on the roster. God help us if he gets into foul trouble.
Conversely, if BU had played more than 1 big at a time, they wouldn't have been outrebounded by 10 and wouldn't have gotten destroyed in the paint 42-22, and the game wouldn't have been as close as it was.

Sounds to me like you're making an excuse for a coach who doesn't even have a Plan B
Jim Les doesn't make excuses, and I am not either.
I am just explaing the reason for the player and substitution pattern that you and others keep complaining about. If we would have gone with a big lineup, I suspect a few people here would have cheered that, but then would probably would have lost that game.
But thank goodness Coach Les knows what he's doing, and we won the game. I don't understand why all the fretting and consternation when we won?
No, it's saying the coach felt we had a better chance to win the game with DSE, CR, and SM in the game than with SS, WE, and AT down the stretch. I agree with him. What good would getting a few more rebounds do if we don't have anyone on the floor that can make a basket?

Because we barely beat them and the line ups that were out there at times were terrible.
The next few games will be a real good test though to see how we are. I still think we play to the level of competition. But sometimes you can't help but wonder why some of the combinations of players that are out on the floor are there.

Aren't you one of the posters who says it's all about wins and losses?
When someone posts about a more favorable style of play, or about better recruits, or better attendance numbers, they get bombarded by people saying "never mind those things, it's all about wins and losses!"
Now the win doesn't matter because you didn't like the "combination of players" we had on the floor. Who cares as long as we win? You can't have it both ways.

idk if you are referring to me, but I can't remember ever saying it's only about wins. Unless you mean by me saying I think we play to the level of competition...and don't get me wrong I'm glad we won, but I do not believe it is clearly black and white. There are grey areas and we seem to be a team that lets inferior competition give us a run for our money. It's not really a good method of playing basketball. Am I glad we won...of course I am DC. Do I think we could have and should have pounded them...of course I do, and that comes back to the "combinations" of people we had on the floor. DSE, EM, and SM all at the same time....is that REALLY necessary?
He did mention Milos would be counted on this year...he's just not quite ready...something to that effect anyway.
It must not be you specifically I was recalling, but there are a number of our better fans and posters who say this- it's all about wins and losses.
So I guess I get confused when we win and we are still trying to find fault with the coach.
at least to me, the win was more bitter than sweet just because of the Dodie injury.
This has been a maddening start to the season. JW's not playing or signing (no one is) now, TB sat out, CR's not 100%, lost to BYU, DD is out for the season. It is near impossible to be positive on anything, now.

Do you think we would have won by a larger margin playing SM, AW, CR, AT, and WE rather than SM, DE, AW, CR, and WE?
Because I sure don't.
Les had no choice. That speaks to a problem with recruiting but playing four guards gave us the best opportunity to win. A bigger lineup with the choices available would have resulted in a loss in my opinion.

There's no doubt that it's what JL 'feels' is more effective; it's whether or not that is the truth which is what in question. I personally do not think it is the truth. More size may have kept Idaho St from dominating the paint (42-22 point advantage, +10 on the boards). Will Egolf has shown himself more than capable of making a shot and a free throw. Playing 2 bigs at the same time also means that any 3 of AW, CR, SM, and DSE would still be playing. I think we'd be just fine in the scoring department with any 3 of those 4 on the floor. Plus, we may not have needed to score as much if we weren't giving up so many layups and 2nd chance points!
