I hear ya, and I was being a bit cynical...
But.....I can forsee the day when somehow, somewhere a mid-major will hotly pursue and recruit a kid that has already committed to a major school, and whattya wanna bet all he** will break loose.
The NCAA will change the LOI rules so a perceived lesser school can never do that again!
But if it is New Mexico taking away Pepperdine's player....so what? It's the same old same old that I've been pointing out in regards to rules violations. If you are a mid-major and if you don't have football, then you get nailed every time one of your coaches says "work harder" in the off season.
But if you are a biggie, and especially if you are a football school, then your players can live in $50,000 a year luxury apartments paid for by boosters and agents...and no investigation.
(as in Reggie Bush and Dwayne Jarrett)

And your players can get $10,000 non-repayable loans like Darnell Jackson did at Kansas, and you get less than the penalty BU gets when POB cashed an extra paycheck.
And how do you explain a violation like this one where the coach was actually housing, feeding, and clothing a player, and even giving her extra spending cash on the side, and the coach and school got
ABSOLUTELY no penalties!
(of course they are BCS schools):

And here is the most massive and blatant NCAA scandal ever, and note the minor penalties (but of course it was a BCS school):

Another major violation with "Lack of Institutional Control" Cited
and yet only minimal penalties (but of course it was a BCS school):
