I know this will start a debate but so what...
Doug McDermott is a great player and had a good game...but...credit where credit is due...
Jared Berggren in my opinion actually had as good or better game and - I know it's only one game - but I think he is a very good player as well...
Berggren scored 27 compared to McDermott's 30 but Berggren got his 27 on just 14 shots compared to McDermott's 23 shot attempts...
if roughly translated - then Berggren would/could have had 44 points if he had taken 23 shots!
Also Berggren hit 40% of his treys compared to 20% for Dougie, and Berggren didn't commit 5 turnovers and get a couple of his shots blocked back in his face.
I would go so far as to say they are similarly skilled players, but Berggren is 3 inches taller, can play above the rim, is 2-3 inches taller, may get drafted as high and have as good of a shot in the NBA as the All American, and I even dare say if Berggren were to play day in and day out against the mid-major opponents that McDermott faces, then Berggren would be an All American as well.
I know it's early and the two players are going to face vastly different defenses with Creighton getting to face the weaker half of the Valley a dozen times...but here are a current comparison of their stats...
McD: 5 games, 19.4 ppg on 12.4 shots per game, 52% on FG's, 29% on 3-pt, 93% on FT, 7.6 rpg, 0.2 blks, and 5 TO last night, 13 on the season
Berg: 5 games, 16.2 ppg on 10.4 shots per game, 56% on FG's, 29% on 3-pt, 86% on FT, 7 rebs, 2 blks, only 4 TO all season thus far
