Creighton-Wisconsin

Creighton had an 8-point lead, and the refs are entirely handing the game to Wisconsin. Every time the Badgers come down the floor, a bad call goes against Creighton. I can't believe McD hasn't exploded yet. It's awful.

4th foul on Echenique on a terrible call. I'm turning this off. I forgot that I can't watch the Valley play against 'power conference' teams...

It doesn't matter. Layups by Jones and Chapman have given Creighton an 8 point lead just before the under 4 timeout. They're almost there.

The best way to fix the refs is to win the game outright. :D

Two missed rebound opportunities help Wisconsin keep possession after the under 4 timeout. It seems like Wisconsin is helping Creighton out by heaving up three point attempts. Good thing they keep missing.

Wisconsin now can't throw a beach ball into the ocean as they have missed several 3 pointers and layups. CU up 74-64 with a little over 2 minutes left. Not quite over, but as long as they don't do anything stupid, they should be okay.

Creighton looks very good to me. I think our top 4 have a chance this Spring to go danceing. Sure thing CU &WU . Maybe ISU and UNI. I still think barring an injury to WE we have a chance to avoid Thur. night this year. Gotta have Will for that to happen.

Definitely. UNI has a must win game tomorrow though against #19 Memphis. The bad news is Memphis will be unranked next week after losing to VCU and Minnesota this week. But they do have a lot of home games coming up, with a chance to win all of them except most likely the game against Louisville.

Okay, stupid play number one for Creighton. They give up a 3 and turn the ball over. 5 points to Wisconsin in 8 seconds. Good thing CU keeps making their free throws though!

10 point win for the 'Jays. If teams in the Valley keep playing like this, our SOS is gonna be GREAT hahaha. Between them and the slowly moving up Wolverines.

Great win Cu 84-74 anytime the Valley can beat a Big 14 team it's a great win.

Agreed! A great win by Creighton, and a nice recovery day by the Valley. Wisconsin will be no worse than a top 5 Big Ten (or soon to be "Big 14 or 16"), and should be a pretty sure bet for the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately UNI has been the sore spot, but hopefully they can salvage things tomorrow with a win over Memphis.

It was a nice win by the Blue Jays. However, the #14 ranked team in the country should beat an un-ranked team on a neutral floor.

Understood, but they still needed this win to enhance their NCAA Tournament resume. The pundits will do everything possible to keep teams like Creighton out of the tournament, even established mid-major powers like them. It's much better to be safe than sorry, and Wisconsin potentially will be a great team as they mostly always are. So still a great win against an almost shoo-in for the tournament, and one that should satisfy the selection committee.

I believe Creighton plays Arizona State tomorrow. That would be another nice win, though I don't know how good they are or where they were predicted to finish. Not sure if they are as good as Wisconsin is, but it would still be a solid win for Creighton if they can beat them.

I know but they needed to win this game and they had a large TV audience - except a lot of the west half of the nation would have been in bed...
And I thought McDermott also got some pretty one-sided calls - especially that charging foul in the first half when he ran down Berggren and it was called a block.
That's ALWAYS been the kind of call that can go both ways - but seriously ... when has a Valley teaam ever got those calls when playing a B10 team? Never...so the glow on McD has gotten a little "protection".

It's so early....I guess I don't look at the rankings that much now....at least until some teams have played some competition

An impressive win for CU....I've always like McD, so I'm happy for him until they play us.....

I know this will start a debate but so what...

Doug McDermott is a great player and had a good game...but...credit where credit is due...
Jared Berggren in my opinion actually had as good or better game and - I know it's only one game - but I think he is a very good player as well...

Berggren scored 27 compared to McDermott's 30 but Berggren got his 27 on just 14 shots compared to McDermott's 23 shot attempts...
if roughly translated - then Berggren would/could have had 44 points if he had taken 23 shots!

Also Berggren hit 40% of his treys compared to 20% for Dougie, and Berggren didn't commit 5 turnovers and get a couple of his shots blocked back in his face.
I would go so far as to say they are similarly skilled players, but Berggren is 3 inches taller, can play above the rim, is 2-3 inches taller, may get drafted as high and have as good of a shot in the NBA as the All American, and I even dare say if Berggren were to play day in and day out against the mid-major opponents that McDermott faces, then Berggren would be an All American as well.

I know it's early and the two players are going to face vastly different defenses with Creighton getting to face the weaker half of the Valley a dozen times...but here are a current comparison of their stats...

McD: 5 games, 19.4 ppg on 12.4 shots per game, 52% on FG's, 29% on 3-pt, 93% on FT, 7.6 rpg, 0.2 blks, and 5 TO last night, 13 on the season
Berg: 5 games, 16.2 ppg on 10.4 shots per game, 56% on FG's, 29% on 3-pt, 86% on FT, 7 rebs, 2 blks, only 4 TO all season thus far

No debate here. Are you saying you would rather have Berggren than McDermott. Not me I'll take Dougie anyday. Agree berggren is a nice player but he's no McDermott IMO.

I like them both...Berggren had the better game in my opinion...or at least the most productive...he seems like the typical Wisconsin big man
