Convince me

HRUMPF! Being a die hard fan of the Braves, Cubs and Bears there have been many, many times I wonder why bother. Time and time again these 3 teams torment me to no end. But I wouldn't have it any other way. If you're there through the good times, you're there through the bad times. It's as simple as that. As far as I'm concerned being a fan only when things are going good is not being a true fan. I can bitch, moan and complain with the best of them in regards to where I think the program is at the moment and I will defend anybody who feels the same. But I don't want to hear it from the people who say they won't be going to the games anymore. That's not what a true fan does.

Now that I can't go to BU games, I can't imagine anyone who can go not doing so....

At the very least, you have to go to BU home games to cheer for whoever you picked that game in the MVC Regular Season Game Pick Em Contest right here on BF.com ;-)

(Shameless product placement advertisement!)

PS The nacho's aren't all that bad at the PCC either...

I am sure we are not the only family that makes huge sacrifices to be at games.

However, for us it is not as simple as going or staying home and doing nothing. For us to go we have to rearrange schedules, leave work early, possibly miss church and community board meetings, and then drive 50 minutes. We rarely have a single night off over the course of 7 days.

We will be there most of the time, but I won't miss one of my kids events or make a sacrifice at work to do it.

Sorry :(

So...you're saying I should drive 3 hrs up in this weather to cheer for the opposing team?

Oh...and trust me, from the last game I went to, the phrase misery loves company really does ring true!

Fans are there through thick and thin. We may get frustrated, mad, or even want change, but a fan is there through the good times AND the bad, or horrific.

Agreed. I've been a season ticket holder for 33 years, and was a BU student prior to that. I've seen a whole lot of both good and bad teams during that period of time, and I keep coming back for more because I'm a college basketball fan. I'll keep going to the games (and wearing red) until retirement takes me out of the Peoria area.

I have been a fan of Bradley basketball for a long time, but I do not see any reason to go to another game this year. This team is one of the worst in recent memory. The players seem to be playing hard, but the games are really hard to watch.

Why should I keep watching this year? I don't mean this as an insult to the team. I really want someone to convince me to spend time watching and caring about this team. Next year isn't a reason to watch now.

Because the first sentence of your thread in part says "I have been a fan of Bradley basketball for a long time." There are good times and bad times, believe me I know as I have been a "fan" longer than most on this board.

Holy cow...we have the same sick addiction ( Braves-Cubs-Bears) I will likely only attend the ISU game for the rest of the season (to see who is actually the worst team in the Valley) and continue to give my tickets to neighbors and friends if I can find someone interested. As I have said before--I have officially tossed in the towel on BU until Les is gone.(and hopefully I'm wrong...I was wanting Lovie to be gone too---and now look what's happened to Da Bears :-o

I, too, am a Cubs, Braves, Bears fan (in order from which team I've been a fan for the most amt. of time) Started watching my first Cubs game at 4 yrs. old and have been a die-hard ever since.
Went to BU games (mostly vs. IL St.) in elementary school - hence, I go by...LITTLEBRAVE! :D

I am a fair-weather fan of the Blackhawks and some other teams, but my top 3 will likely never change. And I certainly will not stop watching any of those teams no matter how badly they are doing - thanks in LARGE part to my devotion to the Cubbies and their loveable losing ways!
It's been a tough life as a sports' fan, but at least I'm livin' and keepin' hope alive!

That's not what a true fan does.

I have to disagree with you on this point. If you don't like the product, the best way to voice your displeasure to ownership (or the school in this instance) is to not buy the product. I'm still paying attention to this team but don't want to watch them anymore. I'm not a season ticket holder btw but have attended games frequently in the past (probably 50-75% of games that I could attend in the last 10 years with the exception of this year). Due to my schedule, I cannot attend most games.

Perhaps they should have a free pasta night.

I was really hoping that someone could pretend to be the Bradley athletic department marketing team and find a reason to get excited about the team.

I'm a sophomore at Bradley, and I will be at every home game the rest of the year and probably will be going the MVC tournament. I may be new to this board, but I'm not new to being a fan. If you truly are a fan of a team, you support them in good times and in bad. That's what being a fan is about. If you only care about a team when they're good, you are not a true fan. You're a fair weather fan.

Welcome to the board Chibearsfan. You're already off to a great start....... And I think I love you man.

Thank you. I was going to say the same thing, but whenever I do, it seems to offend some fans.
The definition of a fan is "an enthusiastic supporter of a team". It is not contingent on the team winning.

Fair weather fan- A fan of a sports team who only shows support when the team is doing well.

I will always support BU, does not mean I agree with everything that is going on , pretty much everyone on this board is a BU fan, they just want them to start winning championships as it has been way too long for a school that has all the fan support Bradley has.

You do realize that the more money I spend to drive up, purchase tickets, and then purchase a tournament pack, the better the chance that more will do so and listen to you and then better the chances that this entire regime will stay together...

Its not about not supporting the University or the players...trust me, I've spent more than enough money toward the University and it's Athletic Department.

I just don't see the purpose of wasting my money on a failing product that is Jim Les Basketball...

At this point after countless hour upon hour of car trips back and forth and back and forth, I'm sorry, I'm just flat out tired and would choose to watch from afar some nights...I just don't have it in me to travel around with the way things are going and how miserable it makes me after...

If you think that makes me fair weather then so be it...but I have to ask, given my situation, would many of you do what I have been doing for years now and driving 3.5 hours each way just to watch Bradley Basketball all the time?!

I have a feeling most would not in most normal circumstances, and I could probably sit it at 90% no given the current state of the program.

I'm new around here so I did not realize you had a 3.5 hour drive to come to the Bradley games. I guess I should have gathered you were from the St. Louis area from your user name. Provided you still support the team, I don't believe there is a problem with not wanting to drive 3.5 hours to watch a team, but I do think you should still support it and want to watch the games at least on TV or computer. It doesn't make you a fair weather fan to not drive 3.5 hours to support a team. If you were from Peoria or the surrounding areas, it would be different, but not in your current situation. I apologize if I insulted you.
