Comings, goings on Hilltop - DR

I'm happy with what we've got coming back and coming in to play for us.
I don't think we've lost much. But okay, I'll say Go Illini now that he is playing for ''em' man. Here's a question, will DR's quotes of Geno when the word them is in the quote, will it read 'em or them. Did JL talk in 'ems. Does Geno talk in 'ems or thems or does using 'ems rather than them make the article faster to write. That's what inquiring minds want to know. I got 'emed out reading some of those quotes. Got to make 'em buy-in to the game plan.

I think it's important to recognize that we're talking about the program as a whole with these changes. No one player, whether it's Sammy or Remy, is bigger than the program, and if one decides that a change has to be made, you can't let individual player fallout prevent you from that action.

Look at it as an equation. The people who supported the change believe the following:

(Geno - Abell - Sam) > (Les + Abell + Sam)

The change from Les to Geno adds more to the long-term future of the program than the loss of RA and SM take away. Now, of course, reasonable minds could argue that it's the other way around: the combination of Les, RA, and SM could be greater than the combination of Geno with neither player. But, either way, I think we're making a mistake by not recognizing the dominant variables in that equation are Geno and Les.

There are some uninformed fans who mocked and ridiculed others who predicted that some players would leave, and some highly talented recruits would back out. As expected, it has happened, and we may not have seen the end yet. It is unfortunate we won't get to see Sammy running this team next year, and it is just as unfortunate that Bradley fans may not get to see Remy Abell in a Bradley uniform (I hope this report is wrong). I haven't met anyone who doesn't agree that we would have been a much better team next year with Sammy and Remy.

I agree that I want to wait for an official announcement that RA is gone before we write him off. But if he does choose BU, then things won't be that bad. But losing Sammy certainly hurts. If it turns out that he is the only major player defection though, I think we will be in much better shape than I honestly thought we would. And hopefully we will be wrong DC regarding our player defection predictions, but it would not be shocking if we lose some more players before this is all said and done. But prove me wrong BU! :D

Am I concerned? What would that accomplish?

Do I wish people would have stayed and given Coach Ford a shot? Yes, but those guys left. Time to move on.

Those same fans "who knew" predicted all the big money boosters would pull out also. They predicted the President and A.D. would be in trouble. They said DSE was sure to leave, etc.

This isn't a pi$&ing contest.

All that matters is that Coach Ford and the players who WANT to be here will be on the court next year and playing games. You can either accept that and move forward with them or you can continue to predict more ominous events, player defections, and booster walk-outs.

I, for one, would like to give the new coach and the players who are dedicated a shot moving forward.

As one of those people who predicted mass player defections, I most certainly feel that GF will do a great job here. But I'm also one who felt that JL would have done as good a job with a full team next year as well. I'm sure he would have been more than capable of guiding this team to a top 3 finish next year. And while I feel GF could do the same, he will be a bit more hanstrung with Sammy and possibly RA gone next year. But agreed that DSE staying here is a big gain for us!

Coach Ford has shown that he wants to win right away, and that he is not averse to talking Coach Les' players into staying, and recruiting Coach Les' recruits. Let's be happy and give him credit for this, as it is not the norm among new coaches, from what I have seen. We don't know if he has made a trip to Louisville yet. Let's hope he's headed there this week. :)

Yes, and hopefully we'll here some more news on this sometime within the next week or two.

Agreed. I hope he can sell his vision to Remy. If not, he has to find another player to fill the spot.

And I, for one, am hopeful that he can coach Jim Les' players better than Jim!

Long live Jim Les. xoxoxo

Coach Ford is going to need to sign some players that can help immediately if we expect BU to have a decent season because a good coach still needs good players if you expect to win, hoping for good news on player personnel next week.

something tells me (with the smiley) that you knew two days ago that Coach Ford was going right away this week to Louisville to talk with Remy -- ;)

It was in the PJStar on April 13th, wasn't it?

It did mention that it Would be this week. Not more specific.

Maybe you don't care, but I like knowing that it is today and that Willie Scott was going, too. Those were not mentioned in the PJS. No slam on PJS as I really appreciate the articles lately, but DaC was providing more detail.

Why continue to nitpick on DC, JD? Isn't that what you spend time on TOB doing?

Two things....

1. I quoted T, not DC.

2. It's not nitpicking....It was in the paper last week, and it is in today's Louisville Courier http://blogs.courier-journal.com/jodydemling/2011/04/19/tuesday-morning-nuggets-10/

Come on, jeffsu, if you read TOB, then you know I do not do that. You can not like what I say, but don't try to color me as something I am not.

I don't spend my day comparing the boards. Some do, but I do not.

...why compare boards? One is backed by a major multi-million dollar corporation with hundreds of employees, dozens of full time reporters, access to zillions of newswires and news outlets, endless amount of time with their full time positions to make calls and do digging, and even full time, highly paid staff whose sole dedicated job it is to know about and write about Bradley, as well as full time paid employees just to run their message boards...
BradleyFans is just a bunch of fans who have busy full time jobs elsewhere, with little or no time to stay up on events, and even less time to do the same kind of work that would come easy to full time career newspeople....clearly it would be patently impossible for a bunch of know-nothings to get more relevant info in the few minutes of their spare time that they have than the experts and professionals whose sole job it is to get the info first and most accurately....
so it would be no wonder that the PJS gets all the news days before it appears here.... ;)

Fair enough.

BU lost Granger, Tisby, and Tucker when JL came on board, and JL did pretty good for himself in spite of this.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over BU recruits/seniors fleeing BU with the current coaching change, if you believe in the Coach BU hired to take BU to the next level.

There was no guarantee RA, or even SH, would come to BU this fall even if JL had stayed. It wouldn't have surprised me one bit given the win or else mandate JL would certainly have had over his head during the 2011-12 season.

Would you as a freshman recruit want to go to a school when there was no publically no guarantee the guy who recruited/signed you would be there after one year?

I wouldn't want to risk it after having burned up a year of eligibility, and wouldn't want that potential coaching change pressure/vibe around the team during the season... Particularly if I was a highly sought after recruit who continued to blown up .... and had lots of other opportunities.

Just sayin...
