BU- Missouri State Postgame

I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE. Aggresive play is what I want to see. I'm not talking about fists or elbows to the head - no. Getting a T for a forearm to chest or back?, I guess that's the refs call, right or wrong. Basketball is a physical game, so keep playing the same way Matt.

I'm a Bradley fan 1st and an Illini fan 2nd. If any of you remember the Illinois vs UNC NCAA championship game you will remember Shawn May knocking over player after player to get to the basket, and no fouls were called?? Illinois got screwed big time in that game by the refs not making the obvious calls. Illinois should have been the NCAA Champion.

Keep playing the same way Matt!

BU Rick - the obvious calls missed ALL SEASON AND in the Championship game were all the ILLEGAL MOVING SCREENS UIUC used to get their shooters open.

A honk is someone who drinks ridiculous amounts of Kool-Aid. Many honks can be found on this board (not that there's anything wrong with that).

In response to another one of your posts, Salley didn't get a T last night for standing over someone and jawing at them. But he did at the ISU game, which was just about as dumb as shoving someone in the chest. I don't have a problem with Salley (or anyone) playing aggressively. I just have an issue with him picking up technicals for stupid overreations.

Also, you still haven't answered why I should move to Canada.

The last thing i want to do is justify MS's Technical, but to be fair...they had a triple team on him and they were getting in his face. Trust me I was right there in the front row of the student section. While yes it was dumb for him to do, he was getting fouled...and the refs didn't call it. AND on top of that...he had passed to Ruff and one of the guys was still gettin in his face.

While it was dumb...it was not uncalled for.
his T at the ISU game...THAT was dumb...AND uncalled for
that move alone should have benched him for the next game
but no JL keeps his massive man crush on MS
and keeps DC in the dog house for a game that happened in DECEMBER

They never got their flu shots?

Flu shots are recommended for the very young, very old or the weak and that I believe should rule out the players.

I liked that JL went into a zone because it showed them that it needs a lot of work. Let's just hope in the 2nd 1/2 that the team was already looking forward to Saturday's game. Here's to some great spirited practices from the team.

On MS I like his fire but it needs to be under control. He is not our best offensive post player because he should be playing the 4. I like it when he faces up with some space and drives in. He can not for his life catch or finish a DR pass for a point blank. Do we need him to play YES would I like to see more minutes go to SS YES! Then we could have him play the 4 and move TW to the 3 occasionaly.

I think what Les sees in MS is Big Mike Williams. I only wish he could finish around the basket like him.

Not gonna go that route, because it is a sad story. You stay right where you are. Canada is a great country and a great ally of ours. We are friends and allways will be. Enjoy reading your posts Scouter. Just don't agree with the forearm.

What exactly do you disagree with?

The forearm thing you seem to be sooo upset about. I don't disagree about anything our country does. So what.

I'm upset about becuase it's another in a series of stupid technical fouls committed by Salley where he let his temper get the best of him.

Also see: T'd up for standing over someone and trash talking vs. ISU, and T'd up for slamming the ball after a call against ... InSu?

I like Salley because he's the most solid, reliable big man we have. I don't like that his temper could end up costing us in a game down the road.

Reading through the thread I believe we all agree that MS needs to keep his agressive play under control a bit and we all like it that he has a lot of fire. T's are never good unless it's the coach trying to prove a point. It is never in a team intrest to have a player T'ed up.

Well obviously not everyone does, and certain people are basically saying it's ok to give away free points because hey that's just Matt Salley being aggressive. Gimme a break.

While I liked the physical presence MS brought on that play, I didn't like the T. But I don't understand how you could lobby for more minutes for DC after yesterdays game. He got a pass thrown to him and he ducked. This is not dodgeball. I have nothing against him but he is not ready to play at this level yet.

I was a big proponent early in the season for DC to get more playing time, but boy was I wrong. He looked clueless last night when that pass was thrown to him.

FWIW, I don't think it's really fair to judge DC on 2 minutes at the end of a half. The kid has barely played in the last month and a half. Coming in and immediately having an impact when we're working for good shots in the final minutes isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. I'm not advocating playing him big minutes right now or anything, but I think you'd see more production if he got 8-10 straight game minutes and a few sets ran for him.

I agree. You can't judge a player's contribution based on 2 minutes a game. The coaches have decided to minimize DC's time for reasons they obviously see fit. But, in defense of DC, you can't get an accurate take on player given the number of minutes he is curretly logging in the games. The only way to fairly assess him at this point would be to attend a couple of practices.

He did though make a nice pass off the high post to the corner to JC for an open 3. Seems his confidence is zero and without any confidence he will never succeed at this level.

The whole Salley getting Tech's is to me very simple, Salley seems to have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to anyone who is physical with him, essentially disrespecting him. He takes it very personal and he feels the best way to retaliate is to retaliate in a physical way. To show how he is not going to let anyone disrespect him. He is a tough guy who can not keep his emotions in check. He is easily frustrated and it doesnt take much to distract him.

Everytime he gets a techincal it is simply a turnover and if the other team makes the free throws 2 free points. You can not give away possession or points in College basketball, games are to tight and techincals are momentum killing.

I hope the reason is we are going to have an attack beast of a team on the floor next year with DC, AT, and WE. If DC had a few good games like YKW, he'd be gone. I think it's in his best interests that he stay in school. Remember that Memphis team that beat us in the S16, they just kept jamming over us. We could be Bradley, slamma, jamma next year with the other great players that are gonna be back.

It all fits together now! JL is keeping DC on the bench so that he doesn't go pro after his junior year. :D:D:D JL got burned by POB and doesn't want it to happen again!!

I do think DC is going to be an impact player next year. Send him to a big man's camp over the summer. Once he gets the fundamentals programmed into his muscle memory, his upside will be huge.

Are you actually trying to imply that the reason David Collins isn't playing more minutes this year is because if he did, he would be so impressive that he would end up leaving early for the NBA draft and be selected as a lottery pick like PO'B???? Is that really what you think? Wow.
I hope that DC can develop into the type of player that can give us some decent minutes next year as a senior...but if anyone is really expecting him to be a "beast" next year or to magically turn into an NBA prospect, I think you are setting yourself up to be very disappointed.

Game, Set, Match.

from what I understand practices are not much better then games for DC

Not gonna happen playing 3 or 4 guards for most of the game. It's going to take a major change of coaching philosophy by JL. Otherwise, it's going to be DC, SS, RA, WE and AT rotating and fighting for sparse minutes at the 5 spot.
