BU construction update

Are the women supposed to play in the new arena this year, or are they "away" for 1 more season? I thought they were supposed to play at the new arena this year, but it looks like there is a lot of work left to do in just 2 months time if that is the case.

I never heard anything earlier than the start of conference play for the women in the new arena. Last I had heard, which was about a year ago mind you, was that they were considering front-loading the conference schedule with road games and then play the last 9 conference games at home. They were running into resistance from the league and some of its members in doing that.

They may play a few games in the new digs this year, but I doubt it will be more than a handful at this point.

Looks like a lot of prefab components. You would be surprise how quick a building can be raised once the foundation has settled and all the concrete that needs to be poured out of the way.

I believe it still has another 8-12 months left of construction. They still have to construct everything inside. The Markin Center had these walls going up about 6-8 months before completion.

The contractors on the arena have a completion date of March 1, 2010. The job is running behind schedule I am told about 2 months but some of that time will probably be made up with overtime and accellerated schedules. I don't believe there was any intent to hold activities in there this basketball season. I have heard the women already have their deal cut to play at ICC.

Yep..the only thing I have ever heard on campus is that it was supposed to be done about a month and a half before the 2010 spring semester is over.

Kirk Wessler has a nice update on the construction of the new arena and facilities at Bradley--

What is the chance of BU playing a red-white scrimmage this season since total completion is not set until march of 2010 ?

What is the chance of BU playing a red-white scrimmage this season

It has already been announced that there will not be a Red-White scrimmage game this year because the new campus arena will not be available yet. They might have some other kind of event to allow fans to meet the team, but nothing official has been announced.

Does anyone know if the ITOO event is a go this year? Really missed it when they stopped it, for some reason. Last year was another huge success.

Any chance they are going to have the red/white game at one of the local high schools (if possible)? It seems like BU missed an opportunity last year.

It has already been decided that there will not be a Red-White game this year because of the lack of facilities. It will be played next year in the new facility.

Interesting. I remember as a kid how cool it was to meet players like Derek Harper and Bruce Douglas at the Orange/Blue game at Millikin. Back then, the University of Illinois traveled around central Illinois to meet their fan base.

Back when I was in high school, a small college from the South used our gym to practice before a tournament in B/N. It was pretty cool to see college players on our court, even if it was DIII ball.

Athletic performance center nearly enclosed. The gym in the Puterbaugh Men??™s Basketball Practice Facility is also being painted in preparation for installation of wood flooring in January and ceramic tile work has started in the basement in the hydrotherapy room. The Athletic Performance Center and the Basketball Practice Facility are expected to be complete by late spring or early summer of 2010, with the buildings fully operational when students return to campus next fall.
