BU Commit- 2019- Stephan Gabriel

hate to be the first to bring this up but....
Gabriel's team, Hillcrest Prep, has already been playing several games and Gabriel is not mentioned in any of the reports....
and due to the high profiles & rankings of all their players, they are getting good coverage...
...Injured, transferred, or out for some other reason?

There is a Hillcrest North and a Hillcrest South. One is the Prep team and the other is the High School team. I believe the guys you mentioned are not on the same team as Stephan. He is playing.

he was not named to an all tournament team
he was named to a couple preseason teams in AZ by PrepHoopsAz

That article requires a subscription, but I can post this brief part of what was said about Stephan Gabriel in the Arizona Sweet 16 tournament they participated in this past weekend. Sounds pretty good!-

Stephan Gabriel 6’7 SG 2019 Hillcrest North
Gabriel did it all for Hillcrest North as the clear feature player for the group. He was able to score the basketball well at the rim as well as in mid-range situations. Further, his stroke from deep looked improved but will need to keep improving in order for him to make the leap to the next level successfully.
As far as physical attributes are concerned, Gabriel has everything needed to be a high level recruit. He has good size and strength. He is able to seamlessly get to wherever he wants to get to on the court.

Apparently, the writer did not know Gabriel was already committed to Bradley. But it sounds like he played very well and was impressive.

In a separate subscription-only article on Arizona PrepHoops.com, he is listed as one of the top 5 wings at this past weekend's event that included 16 teams-
Prep Hoops Sweet 16: Top Wings
https://www.prephoops.com/2018/10/prep-hoops-sweet-16-top-wings/

Stephen Gabriel (Hillcrest Prep 2019):
Gabriel is a ridiculously athletic wing. He stands at 6’7 and has the ball handling ability to be thought of as a guard. He was very impressive this weekend demonstrating all of those skills. He led Hillcrest to the championship game against Apollo.

And a third article (also subscription) from Arizona PrepHoops.com features a photo of Stephan gabriel and lists him as one of the top playmakers at this past weekend's Arizona Sweet 16 tournament.-

Stephan Gabriel 6’7 SG 2019 Hillcrest North
Gabriel can score the basketball inside the three as well as any prospect at the event. He has an array of skills that aid him in being versatile. His versatility enables him to score the basketball from many spots and positions on the floor.
Further, his physical traits make him extremely tough to keep in front. Even opposing guards who dared him to shoot from deep struggled to guard him as he was able to physically overpower them to get to his spots on the floor. Gabriel has a lot of upside and will make plenty of noise after leaving Hillcrest.

Also, Stephan Gabriel is currently ranked #6 in the high school/prep rankings in the state of Arizona for the class of 2019, but that could change based on his recent performances.

Stephan Gabriel has had a couple outstanding games today draining threes and playing great defense for Hillcrest Prep in a tournament in Arizona, leading his team to two wins.

As we suspected, Stephan Gabriel has left Hillcrest Prep and transferred to a new prep school Veritas Basketball Academy located in Santa Fe Springs, California, a suburb of Los Angeles-
https://teamvbasketball.com/team-veritas/

There were a couple reasons for transfer, but they were personal issues Stephan had with Hillcrest, so I won't mention them here, though they do not have anything to do with him wavering on his commitment.
His new team, Veritas, is one of the highest ranked prep schools in the country. This prep school service ranks them #9 in the country-

Stephan Gabriel played last night for the first time with his new team, and tied for the lead in scoring with 21 points-

They play again today at 4 PM PST (6 PM CST)-

And note that Santa Fe Springs, California is a suburb of Los Angeles, though they travel all over the country to compete against the best prep schools-

Veritas actually beat Hillcrest North (the team Stephan Gabriel previously played for) in a game that was played October 28.
Ironically, that happened to be the day after Stephan Gabriel left the Hillcrest program.

Veritas also has several highly rated D1 recruits in their program, so it is nice to see Stephan excelling despite playing with kids who will be headed to high-major programs.

The Bradley coaches expect to receive a signed National Letter of Intent (NLI) from Stephan!
