Koch Bar's prep school team begins play tomorrow at a big prep tourney in Florida,
the ALL AMERICAN JAMBOREE... in Panama City, FL
http://www.jucoshowcase.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/1AAJamScheduleNEW1.pdf

Their first game is Friday night (Arlington Country Day) vs. Orangeville Prep at 8:30pm (Eastern)
They play 2 more games Saturday, and his old team West Oaks Academy is also playing in this tourney as are a number of well known prep schools and even a few junior college teams.

Letter of Intent

Letter of Intent

I believe Koch Barr is a verbal commit? If so, when can we sign him?

Koch Barr

Koch Barr

I was worried that an extended wait to sign him might make us vulnerable to other recruiters. Since we are getting close now, perhaps we will indeed get his LOI and can rest easy. The guy is a top player from what I can see.

Thanks for the update and info on national letters of intent.

I got to sit with Rick Karius at the Itoo spaghetti supper this year and was asking him about our concerns with signing Koch Bar. I was telling him that we were worried that the big schools would be after him. Rick told me that they were not worried and that the big schools won"t get near him. He seamed pretty positive, which made me feel at ease. Sitting on the other side of me was Joel Okafor. This kid is solid as a rock!!! Told me coach Wardle works them really hard and that he loves it that way. Love a kid that likes to work hard to get better. Dave Reynolds sat next to me also and we talked, but we basically just chatted. I'M READY FOR BASKETBALL!!!

Despite a few "sky-is-falling" alarmists spreading rumors that bigger schools are trying to lure Koch Bar, I have said from the beginning what Coach Karius says, that he is solid with his commitment to Bradley. Coach Drew Adams has a close relationship with him, so I don't think that will change.

... Told me coach Wardle works them really hard and that he loves it that way. ...

it is apparently well known that Coach Wardle does work players hard....so well known that certain recruits don't want to come to Bradley...
But Coach spoke to that exact scenario yesterday and is proud of his reputation of NOT just working players hard, but getting the most out of them and seeing them develop & improve...
If some kid who doesn't want a coach like that says no to Bradley then it actually saves us a ton of time & trouble - the exact trouble we have seen way too much of the past four years.

Koch Bar will have another talented teammate at Arlington Country Day in Jacksonville...

one of the highest rated Illinois kids is transferring there -
Alonzo Verge

Alonzo Verge - got the highest vote totals of any junior last year in the Mr. Illinois voting...and was the only sophomore who made All State

Alonzo Verge - reportedly has offers from both BRADLEY & the Illini - has now left Arlington Country Day (FL) and is transferring back to the Chicago area...
this is really odd timing, and it may mean he's gonna go to another prep maybe even for next year...since he likely won't be allowed to play on any team in Illinois the rest of the year - and this is his senior season...

Verge apparently left Illinois because he was suspended 'til the end of January - and now he is reported to be returning but doubts exist if he wall be eligible after transferring.

Eat kid eat lol

Eat kid eat lol

First . He will be a freshman next yr?

2nd. Could he be the best big since the Zack Attack.

3rd. I'll have a Koch on the rocks please.

-he pronounces his first name as if it is "Kotch"

-and I think he has a very good chance to be the most athletically talented big man since Zach - but note I am not necessarily saying success will come right away - any more than it has for guys like Callum Barker....

It takes time to develop - especially since Koch Bar is still relatively new to basketball ...and is in a system currently at Arlington Country Day that has not always developed big men.
Some might recall that Saihou Jassey was tremendously gifted as an athlete and could have worked himself into a great ball player - but attitude & understanding lagged behind his athleticism.
I doubt Koch will have those same degree of problems as Jassey did, and the fact that Koch Bar did play a couple summers with the AAU Indiana Elite and got really good coaching might help make him the best incoming big man we've had since Zach.
