BU commit- 2016- Koch Bar

Da Coach

Bradley has offered a 6'10" Koch Bar (first name rhymes with scotch) of West Oaks Academy in Orlando Florida (the same school Davante Cooper played at). Koch Bar is 6'10", 210 pounds. He is originally from Sudan.
He also played for the Indiana Elite AAU team, which Coach Drew Adams previously worked with. Bradley appears to be his first offer.

Maybe I have the wrong high school, but what happened to his tall teammates from the Mooseheart High School?

Mooseheart won the 2014 Illinois State lass 1A Championship with the help of 3 Sudanese players.

The two Mooseheart players who were considered the most likely D1 prospects both ended up at Vincennes junior college this past year, as they were not able to qualify for D1 because much of their education was in Africa.
Mangisto Deng, considered by most to be the best of the 3 Sudanese players at Mooseheat, played very little as a freshman at Vincennes. He appeared in only 12 of 35 games for Vincennes, and averaged 0.7 ppg and 0.7 rpg.

Makur Puou, the more skilled of the 2 big men at 6'10", played much more at Vincennes, even starting 27 of the 35 games he played in. He averaged 3.9 ppg and 4.1 rpg as a freshman.

Article about them signing with Vincennes a year ago. Expect them to play a lot more next season with Vincennes losing a lot of players.

The third of the 3 Sudanese players who started for Mooseheart was 7-foot-1 Akim Nyang. He is remained at Mooseheart an extra year to make additional academic progress, but did not play basketball in 2014-15. He committed to Division II Northern Michigan.

OK, I think things are getting confused.
Koch Bar, the topic of this thread, was never at Mooseheart. He is playing down in Orlando at the West Oaks Academy school.

The other kid, mentioned in post#2, Bol Riek (also a Bradley recruit) is at Mooseheart, but he was not on the 2013-14 team with the other 3 Sudanese. He was at Mooseheart this past year (2014-15) but was not eligible.

They have both played for the same AAU program, Indiana Elite, and were brought to the US by one of the Indiana Elite coaches who runs the A-HOPE program, designed to bring tall Afticans over and give them a chance to play basketball and attend US high schools.

(sometimes listed as 6-11) he's also played for the Indiana Elite AAU program, which our assistant Drew Adams has connections

BTW- this is an OFFICIAL visit and a recruit can only take five such all-expense paid visits - so he must take the offer from Bradley pretty serious!

by the way - Koch has a little brother named Chol who is 7-3 and is just in 8th grade...and also goes to West Oaks Academy

Nice job Coach W!

KOCH BAR
Here's some nice recent highlights - the guy also appears to have nice passing ability & ability to see the court
(we have not had a solid big man/low post guy who can pass for **** since Bayo - nobody since 1998 has averaged more than ~1 asst per game - Will E. came closest at 1.17)

National recruiting guru Brian Snow is the one who broke the story on the commitment and hesays...
"Koch Bar will bring his athleticism, rebounding, and shot blocking to Bradley.

All it took was one official visit for 6-foot-9 center Koch Bar to know where he wanted to go to college.
The highly athletic and active post player decided to pick the Bradley Braves following his official visit to the school.
"I took a visit there and I really liked it," said Bar. "I got to meet the coaches, saw the campus, and I felt that it was the place for me."
Bar is someone who cares about academics and that along with the facilities sold him on the Braves.
"It is a very good school," said Bar. "Also I really liked the arena. It seems like a great place to play, and I just feel like it is perfect for me at Bradley."
This is a strong commitment for the Braves as not many players in the Missouri Valley Conference will be able to match Bar's combination of size and athleticism."

I am not finding any ranking that has Koch bar ranked in the top 100
I wonder if he just misinterpreted what the ESPN "grade" means.

there is one ranking that has him just outside the Top 150..but it is still early...
and we have seen before that by verballing to Bradley, he will not move up in the ranking like he would if he verballed to a power-congerence school

it's been a long time since we had a recruit that verballed this early - before the 4th of July for the following season..
Can anyone recall the last time it happened?

As we posted last week, Koch (pronounced like scotch) Bar visited Bradley last Friday and Saturday on an official visit. He loved everything about Bradley, the coaches, and the program.
He plays AAU ball with the Indiana Elite, and Assistant Coach Drew Adams' strong past connection with the Indiana Elite program played a big part in getting close to Koch bar and his AAU coach and him to visit. Great work by the coaches.
