BU 81 UT Martin 76

I was wondering how long it would take for this post to appear.
Well, Bradley was favored to lose to UNI in their last game, so we did what we were supposed to do. But that didn't stop a tsunami of criticism for the team, and numerous "fire the coach" threads. So let's try to be fair and congratulate the team and coach on a nice road win!

I was thinking the same thing DC. I don't get why this one game in particular sparked so much outrage considering this one game, win or lose would not have changed the complexion of this season. I think have been playing much better and a lot more consistent over the past three weeks, and there's no reason why this won't continue the rest of the way. But that doesn't mean they will win every single game all the time.

Losing AT home and not playing good defense will get the natives upset more often then not....

Good article, Dave! I notice he credits a timeout that Jim Les took in the 2nd half after a jumper by Jake Eastman cut the UT-M lead from 8 to 6 for helping Bradley rally to take the lead late and win the game. Jim has been criticized quite a bit here for taking timeouts after made baskets. Nice to see someone acknowledge a coaching move that worked.

I noticed Cuonzo Martin called a timeout in a similar situation during the Missouri St./Valpo game yesterday. I think that was a stupid move by Cuonzo and he should be fired immediately! ;)

As far as existing personnel, WL has the best potential to be a playmaker off the dribble. If he can get consistent, I'd love to see him on the floor as much as possible. But he's got to be consistent.

Great game today for WL.

Earlier in the season I would have agreed with you hands down but DSE has really put it together over the last few games. His drive has been excellent and he's strong enough to finish in among the big guys. Think of a possible future 2012-2013 season with DSE starting at point and WLJr at the off guard.

TM is exactly who we thought they were...a low D1 with a horrible record and a bunch of d3 ballplayers...we should of beat them by 20..sure glad we didnt play the real Tennessee..i dont know how anyone can feel good about beating this horsecrap team..dont matter if it is on the road or not..they are 10-19 for a reason and they play NO ONE.."cupcake classic", and I know some of you guys get excited about JP getting a double double...i will be impressed if he can do it against a formidable opponent..not getting excited over any stats against these bums.

+1. This team and their league are HORRIBLE.

Now THATS "wallowing in misery". :)

You are correct, UTM isn't some world beater but road wins are good. At THIS point in the season and with how we have done its nice to get a W....any W.

And if you haven't been watching Prosser has been getting similart numbers against better competition. The guy has a ways to go but has made tremendous strides this season.

I don't see anyone to "excited" about winning other then just your normal being happy about winning. Its OK to be happy when you win a game correct...?

And just in case you didn't notice we had our reserve pg that has been handling the point for the majority of the season out.
Would you have felt better had we LOST to this "horsecrap" team?

Maybe a little overstated. Yes, they are not a good Division I team, their RPI of 291 indicates that. But they are a lot better than Division 3, as you suggest (maybe you were being facetious?). And I just don't get the "we should have beaten them by more" or the "we were favored to win, so no big deal" arguments.
If anyone wants to agonize over not beating Tennessee-Martin by 20 or more, go ahead and torture yourselves. I felt a lot better after the win, and I was impressed by Jordan Prosser's performance, even if it was against such a "horsecrap" "cupcake".. :)

I kind of feel that way. I know during the preseason scheduling everyone wants to play top 50 teams and we want to win them big. Many teams we've had in the past would have won this game big, a 20 point win would have been easy. I hope no one gets used to losing to Quincy, EIU, .... and losing close games we should have won and not winning games big that we should win big. I can see Gerry's point of view. That game didn't excite me much either.

I think its the word "excited" thats being misused in this case. Don't see anyone "excited" more then just happy even relieved we won a game.

Our fans are intelligent enough (even me:)) to understand this wasn't anything monumental, but in the grand scheme of things looking at how our season has gone, it could have been another ugly moment.

I think its OK to "enjoy" all wins...but thats just me.

I agree with the word "relieved". If Bradley had lost, I don't know if we have enough bandwidth to withstand the onslaught, or the discussion about what would have been in KW's next column. :)

According to Al Gore, a BU loss yesterday could have brought down the Internet!

A BU loss yesterday vs UT-M:

Would have been worse than a giant solar flare over China!

Would have been worse than Christine Aguilera singing the National Anthem

Would have been worse than watching Jersey Shore re-runs

Would have been worse than having to attend the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton

Would have been worse than another late winter blizzard in Peoria

Congrats to Coach Les and the players on the road win. Heck, with as bad as the MVC was in the BracketBuster Bradley did its part. Man the league is down.

I didn't get to watch or listen to any of it, just saw the score every now and again. Nice comeback. Would have been very easy for the guys to mail it in down 7-8 on the road, late, in a pretty meaningless game. But they didn't. That should count for something. Kudos to Jim Les for keeping them interested and competing.

I've said this before but Jordan Prosser has exceeded my expectations. I really didn't like what I heard last year and saw early this year but he has become a nice player. I don't know his upside but he rebounds well and makes shots in the paint when he gets them. He has three years left. I like that he played 38 minutes.

Nice to see Walt really score. He won't shoot well from the three line this often but he is an MVC level athlete for sure. It's good to win when Andrew doesn't have a good game.

DSE has become one of the top players in the MVC the last month to six weeks. Fills the stat sheet. I too was glad to see Milos get some play and make a couple of shots.

Let's beat ISU now.

I do agree with that, BUT the damage has already been done. Granted it's not the same UNI team with their injury issues, and we definitely could have played better defense, but personally I can live with losing at home to a team with 19 wins over losing at home to the likes of EIU, SIU and ISU red. But unfortunately there's nothing we can do about getting those games back.

Alright, I get it. But BU still did get a road win and the only thing they can do now is try to get better, which they have been doing for the last month or so. No shock here, but 10-18 teams play like this against other 10-18 teams. The pregame line had BU winning by 5 and they won by 6. So BU was also exactly who we thought they would be as well.

Yeah and it was nice to see him dunk one the other day....NOW he qualifies (to some) as an "above the rim type player."

Seriously on JP....I was a tad concerned early as he looked like a deer seeing those headlights coming but he has stuck with it, relaxed and let the game come to him.

I like how DSE and jelled also.....Think we got a keeper in JP.

Man, chill out buddy!
I feel pretty good about a Win heading into a critical game at Redbird Arena. It was a road game and we grinded it out without yet another of our starters. So basically 3 men down, we found a way to win, shooting the ball very well too, with our underclassmen stepping up.
I was just hoping for a W, and we got it. We were pretty evenly matched when the pairings were announced.
Let's analyze how we've been playing as a whole for last 6 games (take out the 2nd half vs. UNI ) It's a heck of a lot better than the 1st 11 games of the Valley season.
Let's move on and feel halfway good about this one. I'm sure the guys are not "thilled" to win vs. that opponent, but they gained some of their confidence back. And we've been playing tough, intense basketball for 6 straight games, which I can't remember us doing last season.

We should (almost) NEVER lose at home. PERIOD.
