BU 58@ #19 Florida 81

After two games:

33% fg shooting

8% 3-pt shooting

2 assists/9 turnovers

Apparently, that's good enough to earn 30 minutes/game.

We need to see some more EM at the point. When AW comes back, he might be a better fit as he's more of a pure PG. Sam M might be better suited playing a combo/scoring position off the bench. I think his shot will come around, but the assist-to-turnover ration is alarming.

Who would have thought that a Bradley team would have trouble shooting the 3? Now we have 4 games that we need to win, and get experience for our guys as well. A couple years ago, didn't Creighton play a tough schedule early, take some losses, and do better in conference for it? I thought they did, could be wrong. This really was a tough one for this years team early in the season.

Sam M wasn't great today, had trouble hitting his 3's, but I look for him to get it worked out, and when Warren comes back, that will help Sam out I think.

Go BU.

He's shooting 8% from 3-pt range and has 2 assists with 9 turnovers.

AW cannot get back soon enough if that's what it'll take to fix these numbers.

Me either Ben....somehow I think DC would disappear...I would though like to see what Will has...I'm just afraid they've grouped him into the center spot when he's more of a 4...

Sam will eventually be ok on offense...his D scares me though...BIG TIME!

Yeah, I agree there. I don't think Will is a 5 at all. His basketball skill set is perfect, in theory, for our system, but at a 4 not a 5. We just havn't seen if he can actually produce at the 4. Obviously JL is seeing something, or not seeing something, from Will that's causing him to not get in the games.

Let's not forget, POB had a 2 point game against a small Drake team when he was here, so let's not make any knee-jerk decisions on folks this early. I think DC has some good moments coming.

So WE should "take a real hard look in the mirror and wonder what his future is" after the 2nd regular season game of his sophomore year......but we shouldn't make any knee-jerk decisions on folks this early? Looks like you might need to "take a real hard look in the mirror" and try to make some sense.

1st exhibition game:

WE: 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 0 turnovers in 9 minutes
SS: 0 points, 0 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 turnover in 2 minutes

The next 3 games:

WE: 7 minutes
SS: 57 minutes

....not sure I follow that logic. And I definitely don't see how WE's 3 minutes against Florida says anything more about his future than SS's 2 minutes against Lewis. There's a lot of basketball yet to be played and WE has plenty of time to see some meaningful minutes and make an impact.

We are going to need to get more than 7 points from Wilson and 5 from Maniscalco.

Theron didn't play very well today. That being said, our offense doesn't do him any favors IMO. He just can't go out and do it himself against this athletic of a team, we need to use him in the offense more. More curl screens, back door screens, specific play sets for him. He doesn't get many looks out of our 3 guard motion, weave, whatever you want to call it offense.

I would like to see Taylor Brown and Theron Wilson at the forwards with Sam Singh at center and Dunson and Maniscalco at the guards; I also would like to have Warren in stead of Sam at guard when he gets healthy. I think those players have earned the right by what they have done so far in the games, also Chris Roberts should get a lot of minutes because he has earned them by the way he has played.

What about Dodie at the point? We know he can play it, and it certainly would give us much more scoring ability w/ him and Andrew in the backcourt...

I then would rotate Theron and CR between the 3 maybe occasionally moving AW to the 3 if we play Dodie and SM in the backcourt...

Then my 4 spot would be between Taylor Brown and Will Egolf...they are the perfect fit for that spot in the rotation...I just can't see Theron being as productive as he could be if he were playing a more natural position...

Then Sam Singh would be my starter no questions w/ DC getting some minutes, but off the bench...

The guys that warrant receiving the playing time should get it...production in games should be awarded...along w/ that, it doesn't help some guys in their production playing out of position...obviously Egolf and Wilson would be of note here...

If Sam M. continues his terrible D and bad ball handling, really there is no other way to alleviate that other than taking him off the point or sitting him for extended time...

Thats pretty much all that can be said for that...

Thanks T......I didn't know that DD had 37 minutes and we had 23 to's!..And I agree...they won the game at the 3 pt line!

Well, I have to say it didn't sound as bad listening to Snell and Buescher on the 'net as it must've looked. Just a few thoughts and observations.....

You could say we stayed in the game for about 3/4, of course it's unknown how we would've fared with AW, but I think it's a valid question. It may have ended up a 20 point differential, but it's not uncommon for the lead to swell like that over the last quarter of the game. I'm not terribly displeased, but that doesn't mean I'm not concerned. We'll see how important AW is to this team after a few games of him being back.....

For those who say we need to get away from the guard-centric offense, I ask this question: does this team have the personnel available (in talent and quantity) to go to a more "traditional" offense? If we play 2 bigs at once, who and for how long (especially when one picks up fouls at an alarming rate, i.e. DC)?

It sounds like we should be attacking the rim as much as possible with our guards as opposed to shooting the 3. Or at the least, shooting the 3 after the defense collapses on the driver.

Dunson and Roberts seem to be off to a productive start, Maniscalco not so much.....maybe trying too much or has too much responsibility?

DC is in his last year, if he doesn't have the fire by now, he ain't gonna get it. If he's still soft, he's gonna stay soft.

One of the complaints about WE last year was that he didn't play down low enough and stayed out of the lane to settle for jumpers. Maybe he hasn't broke that and that's why he's sitting? If that's the case, it won't matter if he gets minutes from DC and SS because he doesn't play the "big man down low" role. Unless he's willing to bang, it won't matter.

One final thing, it's good to see that we got all the way to page 9 before somebody whined about refereeing in a 20 point loss.....

Just got back home from BW3 viewing of the game followed by a fulfilling but probably unwise jaunt to Jimmy's... Most of what I've been thinking since the game has been said here already with a couple of exceptions---

I'm wondering how many of the folks ripping on DC saw the game, becuase while he was bad for a while he actually turned into quite the player after his 4th foul early in the second half. Not sure he can carry that on into the rest of the season, but he played decent position defense and looked MUCH more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball.

I am troubled by SM's play. I think he's feeling the pressure a bit. There were no expecations for BU after Ruffin got hurt last year, and SM wasn't going to take much heat no matter how he did as a result. I'm hoping he'll calm down and put it all together before too long.

All in all, I'm not too disappointed today, as Florida was expected (even by most of us) to beat us, but the second half was a pretty good half for the Braves. If the team can make some positive steps we could hit the conference schedule running pretty well.

I would be open to Dodie at the point. I'm not sure it's a lineup that would serve us best for 30 minutes a game, but Dodie has played some PG, and could allow us to go real big with AW at the 2, CR or TW at the 3, TB at the 4, and DC or SS at the 5. That's a big, athletic lineup right there

I think McCain is a pure, pass-first point guard, but at some point you gotta look to score or teams won't guard you. That happened with JJ Tauai for a while, and it killed us. When JJ started taking those open 3's and became at least a threat to go to the basket, it helped him and everyone else. McCain scored a lot of points in high school, I am sure that he can be an offensive threat at this level. He is quick enough to get into the lane and get the 10-15 footer. If Maniscalco can get open shots and finish around the basket, McCain should be able to as well.

This is the lineup that I like... If WIlkins qualifies, sub Wilkins for TB...

Yeah....its called a 1-3-1 zone....

We went to that after the 4th foul and IMO, we played better in this than we did in man to man D....

We should try that more often...this was a D we played to great extent in the tournament on our way to the Sweet 16.

I don't recall us playing much 1-3-1 on our way to the Sweet 16. We were playing Chuck's patented man-to-man, maybe with a little zone sprinkled in, but we were primarily a man-to-man defensive team.
