Bruce Pearl and co beat #1 Kansas

Lost their leading scorer and 5 other players on the roster were not available. To beat KU is impressive. Helluva coaching job.

Tennessee played very well. They don't have the talent Kansas has, but it's not as if they are devoid of talent. Maze, Hopson, and Chism have been regular starters all year, and Prince has started half their games. Those players, plus Woolridge were all pretty highly sought after recruits. Their lack of depth will eventually hurt them in conference play, though.

Kansas was coming off a near home loss to Cornell...they are not playing well, are not deep, and rely heavily on 2 or 3 scorers...
Not to mention that they so rarely actually ever go on the road for a game ..
I think they will lose more when conference play starts....
This is a good win for Tennessee, but keep in mind, that Tennessee's main guys are ALL still 4 and 5-Star recruits...
In fact, if you list the "Star" ranking of the Tennessee guys vs. the Kansas guys, there's very little difference.

4 Star - Hall, Woolridge, Chism, Prince, Maze
5 Star - Hopson

4 Star - Aldrich, Reed, Taylor, Morris, Morris
5 Star - Collins, Henry

While many can certainly dislike Bruce Pearl for past reasons, or his antics, or whatever - I don't think they can make a fair claim that he is not a good basketball coach.

walkons

walkons

I agree.. While he still had some decent players on the floor, the fact is that he played 3 walkons and 2 freshman at various stages of the game....and we are constantly defending our team and our coaching because one or two players are out injured. Tennessee beat the #1 team in the nation with a severley handicapped line up. It is amazing what good coaching can accomplish! Injuries are a part of basketball. Let's quit using injuries as an excuse. It is embarassing!

here's something interesting...

Kansas was riding high and then loses at Tennessee...and already there's some turmoil at Kansas..

one of the starters goes to the press and starts whining about minutes played and kinda rips the coach for the team being disorganized and too full of prima donnas...

Coach Self rips back and says Taylor should shut up (paraphrased...but you get the picture..)

Oh well - gotta be something to keep the press interested and stay in the headlines...

Hey - last night K-State upset #1 ranked Texas...but K-State was also ranked in the Top 10.

The crowd chanted "overrated"...but I have a ??

If you are a Top 10 team playing on your home court, then is it much of an upset when you beat another Top 10 team at home,
and what satisfaction is there, if you actually chant that the team you just beat isn't rated higher than you?

The overrated chant is one of the dumbest things fans can say... they are basically saying the team they just beat did not deserved to be ranked as high, which actually is saying the win THEIR team just completed must not be as good of a win since that team shouldn't have been ranked that high in the 1st place... Also- KSU was favored in that game... I am very surprised they did not rush the court, but they didn't so I respect that. Now if they were unranked- a storming the court would be acceptable

it's been a month since Pearl's Tennessee beat #1 Kansas....and things are truly melting down....

I have to admit, Pearl has landed some good players and had a few fine years - basically rescuing Tennessee from obscurity...

But in the last month, there's been tremedous turmoil over players arrested, guns, drugs, and then players getting suspended and booted.
Even then, at first, Tennessee was playing OK.....but now -- the fans are ranting...

Now they've lost 3 of their last 5, headed into a showdown with Kentucky...
and the fans are very, very restless......
Their message boards (which are obviously no real reflection of their true fans, right?) are filled with hostile and insulting comments about Bruce Pearl and about the players...
and apparently numerous posts on twitter by the players give evidence to a full fledged internal meltdown as well......
(what do you want to bet none of them are suspended for their tweets!)

As I had noted elsewhere, Tennessee still has 2 5-Star guys playing and a bunch of 4-Star guys, so you can't really say they're doing it with walk ons, but they do seem to be in serious trouble if this turmoil does indeed reflect a player rebellion...and a fan rebellion...

After several of the starters posted tweets ripping on a couple of teammates and complaining about playing time, then their twitter accounts suddenly got locked and some of the tweets removed...
The rips appear to be aimed at a certain walk on that Coach Pearl is playing 24 minutes per game, whose production appears pretty anemic...
I suppose that the fact the player in question who is also getting ripped a bit by the fans on the message boards, also just happens to be the son of the head coach....that it probably doesn't sit well with Coach Pearl...
The only two guys who played substantially more minutes that Pearl's son were the two 5-Star guys

BTW - there's a Facebook pic of Pearl's son that does kinda show him to be a chip off the old block if you know what I mean...
