Weather in Rio de Janeiro:
(remember it's the middle of winter there) but it's somewhat tropical and warm...
presently it's 9:41am at it's 72 degrees, mostly cloudy.
Projected high today is 78, temperature will be cooler Monday, high of only 73, then 86 on Tuesday.

Sao Paolo:
experiencing rain today and the rain is expected to continue through the week.
Sao Paolo will be much cooler this week, highs in the 69-71 range.

The coaches brought in a FIBA referee in today to talk to the BU players about the different rules in international basketball. Some are obvious, like the difference in the shape of the lane, players can rebound and touch a ball on the rim after it has hit the rim, and the game timing. But others re more subtle. Hopefully they will learn quickly and take advantage of these different rules.
 
There has been some discussion by the NCAA to end the foreign tours.
Coaches like them, but the university presidents do not, because of the time away from campus, and the costs.
On June 8, 2009, the Pac-10 submitted a proposal to the NCAA to end foreign tours as a cost-cutting measure. (see 5th paragraph of release)-

T, DaCoach........are you guys on the team flight to Brazil tomorrow? Anyone else from this forum going to make a nice vacation to the Southern Hemisphere and follow their favorite collegiate team? Perhaps a nice relaxing excursion along the tame and safe Amazon River on a non-game day?

I know there are many of you going to Vegas in the Fall but I was curious if any of you are also going to grab your pocket Portugeuse dictionary and head to Brazil? Should be a great trip.
 
I don't know of any fans going on the trip, unless Big Mike is planning on taking his luxury yacht down there.:)
The games will be played in San Carlos, which is not exactly a vacation destination. At least the team gets to spend a few days in Rio.

San Carlos is a wonderful place. Maybe not "typical" in regards to what fits a "tourist destination" but its a very interesting place with great people, great countryside, etc. But I do see how it wouldn't be for everyone.
 
I know of one of our posters who is planning to be in Brazil...and hope to receive some personal communications,
but otherwise, there is no fan tour nor were the specifics about the itinerary made known early enough
for anyone to get satisfactory arrangements made.

By the way, Cooksey, you can note from the map up above in the first post of this thread...
that the Amazon is well over a thousand miles north of Rio and San Carlos, and since it's winter presently in the southern hemisphere, the weather isn't even all that great.
The highs, even on the beaches in Rio will only be in the high 70's and low 80's--
it's also been cloudy with scattered showers....so overall their present weather is a lot like our late September-early October weather.
Sao Carlos, which is inland, is a little warmer, but highs only to the low 80's with overnite lows of 59-60.
So if there's a time to take a vacation to Rio and Sao Carlos, that time might just have been more towards our winter, to get away from the cold, when they have far nicer tropical weather there.

only one thing...a couple tweets prove they didn't leave Atlanta until inside the past hour or two, so DR's comment
"The Braves, who landed Thursday night in Rio de Janeiro..." probably will not come true, as it is already 11PM in Rio, so they will get there some time early Friday morning.
 
Appears if they left out of Atlanta Hartsfield International, then they should be on one of these 2 in progress flights....

I actually thought the very same thing when I read that! It appears they've already landed in Rio after reading that statement, but we know better.
