Bradley vs Duke

Our '06 team was a different beast. With (2) 7'ers and several 6'5" guards on the bench, we looked like a real team "walking through the airport". That was a team that started 5 future pros and had another 5 on the bench (yes, most were euro league). That was not a fluke of success.

I keep thinking back to '07 when VCU's renouned pressure D forced a young Paulus into a 4-6 Assist to Turnover ratio during an early NCAA exit. Thing was, Bradley played VCU at VCU about a month before that game. VCU kept turning up the pressure, but we kept pulling away. I'm certain we would of beat Duke that year, too.

Now, the teams are much different, and I am scared of what Duke might do, but if Duke is relying on some younger guards without Scheyer, with our senior guards, we may be able to pull something off.

I agree with you on all counts. Though, I must say, that there were probably teams in the MEAC and the Patriot League that could have beaten the '07 Duke team. That team was an aberration of Duke teams. They had 0 seniors, 1 junior who had been hurt much of his first two seasons, two overhyped sophomores who would never live up to their billing ( great kid though Paulus was), one sophomore glue guy, and a four man freshmen class that consisted of only two guys who had any business getting ACC minutes at that stage of their development.
The fact that that '07 Duke team managed to win 22 games and make the NCAA tournament was amazing and a true testament to Coach K, and the will of those young men. They were a team with no depth, no experience, a void of leadership, and quite frankly not enough talent. Actually, now that I think about, I cant believe it took VCU a buzzer beater to do it.
Case in point is what happened to the Tar Holes this year, and they featured two tournament tested national champion Seniors, one junior, 4 sophomores including one lottery pick, and a freshmen class that was far more highly touted than the '07 Devils.
Still, its worth noting, as mediocre as that '07 team was, they still did not lose at Cameron to a non-conference opponent, including a couple tournament teams, like Final Four participant Georgetown. Not sure how, but we did.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not....

Irving & Hairston Win Gold With USA U18 Team

Duke commit Kyrie Irving paced the U.S. team with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Irving finished 8-of-17 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line in 37 minutes of action. Josh Hairston, who will also be a freshman at Duke this season, had one point, one rebound and a steal in 15 minutes of play.

Fine you want to make an excuse for Kansas by all means go for it, its short sighted but whatever... but do not make any excuse for Pittsburgh. They saw exactly what they were getting and there is no way in the world they ever overlooked Bradley.

If you think that then you did not watch the game and are only assuming. Bradley flat out outplayed Pittsburgh in every single area of that game. Same goes for Kansas but I guess they get a pass because they played on the Sunday before the Friday tourney game and I guess were just worn out.

You might be the only person ever who "says" they are a Bradley fan and have tried to make an excuse for either Kansas or Pittsburgh losing in the NCAA. Very Weak.

There are a number of Bradley fans that will gladly tell you that entire week was a "fluke". :?

Fluke or not it happened and that fact never can be changed. And anyone claiming to be a Bradley Basketball fan and saying that week was a fluke is NOT in anyway a Bradley Basketball fan.

Just my 2 cents.

Does anyone know if Bradley has tried to land a home-and-away series with any national powers with the Bradley home game being played in Chicago? Wouldn't a UCLA, Duke, Florida, Texas be interested in an opportunity to play in Chicago for recruiting purposes?

It's possible they might have, as they pursue almost every possible avenue in trying to put together a schedule. But I doubt that any discussion Bradley would have had with another school about a home-and-home would have included an interest on Bradley's part to play a "home game" in Chicago. I don't see how that would benefit Bradley much. They would probably get very little of the ticket revenues, and none of the other revenues that go with a home game. In fact, with travel, food, and hotel expenses, such a home game would end up costing Bradley thousands. They also would lose any home-court advantage they would have, but it would still hurt their RPI as a home game if they lost.

I guess the underachieving MVC season and failure to win the MVC Tourney by that NCAA BU Team must have been a fluke ;-)

Yeah, there weren't any good teams in the MVC that year. We finished fourth and lost in the title game. I think the MVC only had what? 4 teams in the NCAA's? and 2 in the Sweet Sixteen? Yeah, the MVC should have been ours for the taking, clearly we laid down. It couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that it was the MVC's strongest year ever...

Az Fan I know there are no bigger Bradley fans than you and I. For anyone to question our fan loyalty because we didn't think the Braves were going very far that season is ridiculous. I wonder how many of so called better Bradley fans than us thought that after the late season Indiana St game the Braves would even make the Big Dance, much less be as successful as they were. Just because they surprised me, admit it guys, and everybody else, does not mean it didn't make us happy to be Bradley fans.

If the word "FLUKE" is too strong a word for a BU Fan to describe BU's upset wins in the 2006 NCAA Tourney vs Kansas and Pittsburg, perhaps "UNLIKELY" would be more palatable.

I believe BU finished tied for 5th/6th in the MVC that year with N Iowa at 11-7. BU edged out Creighton and Mo St for the NCAA's that year who both finished at 12-6, and N Iowa at 11-7, but all had disappointing MVC Tourney Results. BU was 3-5 vs the top four teams in the Valley and lost two bad games, one to Drake and one to Indiana State that season.

Unless one wants to claim WSU, SIU, Mo St, Creighton, and N Iowa were all better than Kansas and Pittsburg that year, BU's NCAA wins were unlikely, or, BU's 11-7 MVC record that year was unlikely... ;-);-);-)

I consider myself a BU "fan", but not a BU "fanatic", when discussing their BB team and its accomplishments. :D
