You Tube video clip featuring the 1986 Bradley Braves from a segment of an NCAA preview show on CBS. The show features a young Brent Musburger, and an even younger Doug Collins in what may have been his earliest network sports work.
The first minute and a half are about Alabama, then the Bradley segment starts. There is some great video shots of the team, crowd, and even the politically incorrect Indian Chief that did the war dance on the floor of Carver Arena! There are also some great shots of Dick Versace, Hersey Hawkins, and Jim Les.

BU

Wow what a great video DC, thanks for getting us the heads up! BU still gets no respect, nor the MVC for that matter! some things don't change

Man that was awesome.

How about that Bradley song? That was one catchy jingle.

Also liked the clip from the computer lab. Good to see there were computer nerds back in '86 on campus!!!!

Wish I could have seen that team in person.

Best BU video I have seen on YouTube. Funny how 'no respect' from the big boys was prevalent back then. I remember that team like it was yesterday. Best team I have seen in my lifetime. What a magical year. That video really tugs at the heart strings....

WOW...how good was that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great find. We got the dreaded 8 seed didn't we. Beating Haskins West Texas and giving eventual champs Louisville a good battle in the second round.

As much as many of us dislike Packer I recall him saying BU probably was seeded a bit low (as in we should have been higher).

Give us a 10 or a 7 seed avoiding Crum and Perkins and I think BU could have won another game or two...oh well.

Thanks again for the great find....

Good find....yajusneverno, and those short shorts.......

and hey, in that highlight of Chet Walker and the Braves beating New Mexico in the NIT, were they using a white basketball?
I sorta remember a short trial of using white balls way back then...........does anyone else?

I don't know where to get a copy of the song, or if it is still available.
I have my 21 year old copy of the vinyl 45 RPM record.

But the writer of that song is a member of this board, and I will email him and see if I can find out if the song is still available, or if it can be downloaded as a mp3 file!

Dogs, I'm ashamed. It was UTEP they beat in the first round.

I think it's just a confusion of names. I think Dogs was referring to Don Haskins and Texas Western College, which was their name when they won the NCAA national championship in 1966. The school was later renamend University of Texas-El Paso in 1967.
They are the team Bradley beat in the first round of the 1986 NCAA tournament in Ogden, Utah Regional.

Of all the road trips I've made over the years, that charter flight trip to Salt Lake City and the bus rides to Ogden was the most memorable. I still have fond memories of the Mormon Temple tour and listening to the choir practice, watching the Jazz play on the Braves's off night, but most of all the great time we had with our buddy, the late Don Draeger.

I have a vhs copy of the show WMBD did at the end of the year....somewhere....BTW..have had the oppurtunity to wear the ring the team got for going to the NCAA's that year....big and heavy...very cool.

What a great trip done Memory lane! Coach Versace was certainly one of the best dressed coaches in college basketball in the 80's - he comes off especially well-dressed compared to Wimp Sanderson in this video. Gene Smithson was a character.

I attended the '86 championship game in Dallas and watched Lousiville beat Duke. Throughout the game I kept lamenting that Bradley had come up against Louisville so early in the tournament. BU had the horses to easily be a Sweet 16 team and quite possible an Elite 8 team.
