Bradley has annonced the receipt of 2 Letters of Intent. This comes from an official Bradley release--

High school point guard Eddren McCain (Laplace, La./Reserve Christian H.S.) and junior college swingman Chris Roberts (Fort Worth, Texas/Dunbar H.S.) both have signed the NLI’s and will join the Braves for the 2008-09 season.

“We are really excited about these two additions to the Bradley Basketball program,” said Les. “Not only are both players extremely talented basketball players, but they are also quality individuals and good students.”

Originally from Houston, McCain is a 6-foot point guard who has helped Reserve Christian High School to the last three Louisiana Class C state titles. An all-state performer during his junior season, McCain averaged 21.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.3 steals last year. After ripping down 16 rebounds in the semifinals, McCain contributed 24 points and eight rebounds in the 2007 state championship game to snare game MVP honors. In the early going this year, McCain has averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists and four steals per game, while helping his team to a 10-0 start.

Roberts will come to Bradley from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where he is completing his sophomore season. An athletic wing, Roberts averaged 9.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists during his freshman season, while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range. Coming out of high school in 2006, Roberts was ranked as the 45th best senior in the state of Texas by Rivals.com.

Would have liked to see one more but I'm happy we have both these guys committed. Lets see if we can't get a slasher...

Roberts' numbers seem a little low, but the talent is there, any idea on why the production is a little low? Les' staff must see something. maybe a little hilltop attitude could change his ways...?

Great news on getting the LOI's in hand.........look forward to EM & CR on the Hilltop! Now lets use one of the rides to pull in either a big 5 or a 4 power forward that can score!

I don't know the reason his numbers are modest last year, but I have heard Roberts is a big time scorer.
Navarro College has played 4 games this year. Roberts had a good game and was their leading scorer in the first game, but missed the 2nd and 3rd games with a bruised hip. He played last night in a loss, but his minutes were limited and he scored just 8 points. Navarro is now 2-2.

Now that we have the 2 LOI's we were counting on.....are we done until the Spring signing period or is there something else in the works on this period that ends Wednesday? I would have to believe that a Big or a PF would be sought? What does everyone think?

JUCO numbers can be very misleading at times. Will Franklin only averaged 8.4 ppg his sophomore JUCO year, and we know how he turned out. I'm guessing Roberts can fill up a stat sheet if we've recruiting him to be a perimeter scorer.

I think we'll be going after a player more like Theron in size and stature, maybe similar to the late Jeremy Fears, even a Sommerville, a scorer who thinks shoot first. I know we play team but having a player like Sommerville who can shoot the three, dribble drive, and even post up, is great. I know I pretty much asked for a player that can do it all, but you guys know what I'm saying... A player like !!ILLINI HATERS TURN AWAY!! Roger Powell or something of the sort.

BTW I think Egolf could partially fill that role in years to come...

we should start getting reports on Eddren McCain as high school play begins in Louisiana this weekend, and here in Illinois the IHSA first date for basketball games is this Monday, Nov. 19.

The signing period ends tomorrow (Wednesday) night at midnight,
but don't expect any more significant announcements.
Now we need to pick up someone in the spring that can be a help to the team.

Has Chris Roberts' season began?

As far as the spring recruiting period goes, I think we need a big man (preferably 4 year), and a shooter or big guard.

Yes, Chris Roberts' Navarro College team is 2-3. Roberts played in the first game and the last 2 games, but missed the other 2 with with a bruised hip. He scored 17 points in the last game.

McCain's numbers boggle my mind. I can't believe he gets that many rebounds if he is only 5'10. He must have Ruffin leaps. As far as Roberts is concerned his numbers arent the best but I trust the coaching staff on this one. Wichita St really wanted this guy so I am glad we got him before he got to Wichita

If you watch some of the video of the Reserve Christian games from last year--
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5043

you will see how he does get so many rebounds. Though McCain is one of the shortest kids on the team, he plays defense under the basket some of the time, and crashes the boards, which is unusual for a point guard. I am not sure what the logic of this is, but it allows him to get a lot of rebounds.

I do like McCain's "clutch-ness"

his performance in the State Championship match leads me to believe he will be good at the MVC tournament. Which is good because Bradley is on a run of playing very well at it. Maybe he'll push us over the edge for a BU MVC championship.

whoooo yea optimism!!!
