So Chico, how about tossing a tomahawk on our jerseys/logos... Still don't really care about a physical, costumed, mascot... I think it's more about having an image that connects with our name. What's wrong with the tomahawk?

I get what the issue was... But I think Bradley could go through the NCAA to make sure they are okay with it. A tomahawk is not, on its own, any more offensive than a "sun devil."
The key, to me, is you've taken the characterization out of the native American imagery. no more "person" involved.
The Arizona State Sun Devils have changed their logo and there is no more Sun Devil on their uniforms. It has been replaced with only the pitchfork. The Sun Devil will remain as the mascot though. Some fans are complaining saying we are the Sun Devils not the Pitchforks. I know we can't use the Brave mascot anymore, and I still don't agree with that, but I can say we are the Braves and, IMO, nothing else makes sense.
A tomahawk is 99.9% Native American.....so why wouldn't there be a problem? you would be depicting a NA weapon. Insinuating violence among NA's
Lets put Teepees, feathers, head dresses, bows and arrows, wigwams, and NA language on everything
t---I understand what you are saying. However, FSU has had a large schloarship program for Seminole students and conducted summer school classes for Seminole children long before the issue of indian mascots and imagery began.
Additionally, the other difference is that FSU honored a specific indian tribe from their state with the approval and encouragement of that tribe.
On the other hand, "Hawkeyes" are not a specific tribe and Sioux indians are spread out all over the U.S. in many tribes.
I believe FSU was fortunate in their closeness with the Seminole Nation.
Also, they had the guts to take a strong stand believing that their cause was right. Most schools didn't have any kind of strong past history linking them to their imagery and they caved in to the NCAA rather that fight.
but wiz -- all those same alibis were totally discounted in other cases of NCAA schools using the same imagery -- and only when the Seminole nation make a pact with the school (and in return to garner some of the cash money that comes from the sales of items) did they grant their approval for their use.
yes, it is actually well documented that they use those insignias and emblems only by permission from the Seminole nation --as I noted they don't grant the same rights to the high schools who cannot play the fees
