Bradley fan obituary

Little known to most because he graduated long ago and his accomplishments were mostly made away from Peoria...
but a truly GREAT Bradley grad and BU fan passed away Tuesday......
Here is a little synopsis of Joseph Miles Chamberlain and some links including to his obit...
His character as well as his accomplishments were remarkable and yet his humility and congeniality made him well loved by all those who knew him...

BTW - Joe's sister is Barbara Abegg - wife of the past President of Bradley University, Dr. Martin Abegg.

Because of a family connection I was at the memorial service for Joe Chamberlain -- and found that he was an even more well known and famous Bradley alum than I had even thought...

Even the New York Times, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Trib and other major news coverage noted his passing and friends & colleagues from New York to San Francisco were present and spoke of Joe - with the NYT noting (you have to read it - it's in jest) that Joe had discovered life on Mars.
Interestingly he was laid to rest right next to another well known Peoria, Philip Jose Farmer.

Here's an interesting obit from this morning's paper...

local resident Charles Kellogg...RIP to a great sports enthusiast...

"He also attended regularly the many games in which his children and
grandchildren were team members, the last being a Bradley soccer game at age 89.
His two highlights were serving as captain of his Yale basketball team in a
game against Bradley's Famous Five at the old Armory in 1938 ...
He was a 65-year member of the Country Club of Peoria.."

His grandson played soccer for Bradley also.
Very nice guy the times I met him. RIP
 
Although no official word from the authorities - but it is believed that long time Peoria City Council member and also long time Bradley fan & season ticket holder Gary Sandberg has passed away.
He was one of Peoria's truly unique people & personalities. He was an SIU grad.
Sandberg recently ran for 1st District Councilman but lost and retained his at-large seat - he has never represented the 2nd District where Bradley sits.
 
he was one of the few politicians that represented the people of the community and not just themselves. That is why some of the rest of the Peoria "good ole boys" did not like him. He was the voice of reason.
 
Gary was real a character, as he loved to pontificate and grandstand. Although I can't think of a time that he didn't vote against the interest of my business, he'll most certainly be missed.

Yes, he was quite a character, and usually voted to represent what he thought was his constituents' side. However, I am not sure I would agree with the term "voice of reason".
 
Voting no because the others vote yes and voting yes because the others vote no is not a voice of reason. It's to be different and Gary was different. Always a fun guy to talk to though.

I'll bet most who have gone to games will remember him - he was at all of them and was President of the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame...

I am sure many fans here knew Larry. There was no bigger Bradley fan than Larry, and he has been involved with the Chief's Club/Braves Club for decades, serving as a board member, and officer for many years. I saw him at Bradley road games many times through the years, and he never missed a home game. He will be missed.
