Bradley 2021-22 schedule

QUESTION: With the cost to rent out the Civic Center, and with the potential for limited attendance due to COVID, does Bradley make more in revenue by going on the road for away games? As we all know, Bradley is not in the greatest financial position at the moment.

Not unless it's a "buy" game where they are getting paid by the home team. This year's schedule does not appear to include any of these games.

The 2021-22 basketball season's first official event, the Itoo Hall Spaghetti Supper, is less than 3 weeks away (Monday, Sept. 27).
Barring any last minute clamp-down proclamations from our governor, this will be the first basketball event that fans will be allowed to attend since Bradley's championship win in the 2019-20 MVC Tournament.
Last year's Itoo Hall supper was cancelled and no fans were allowed at the home games.

Tickets now on sale-
https://bradleybraves.com/news/2021/9/7/mens-basketball-spaghetti-supper-tickets-now-on-sale.aspx

Get tickets early, as there should be a large crowd. Let's welcome and congratulate the 2021-22 teams, including the 8 new members of the Bradley men's team (winners of 2 of the last 3 MVC Championships) and 8 new members of the BU women's team (the reigning 2021 MVC Champions!)!

Here's what we've been waiting for, the BU schedule:

https://bradleybraves.com/news/2021/...-schedule.aspx

I'm not too impressed.

In regards to the home schedule, I share your sentiments....
But overall, there are some good opponents.

Here is the complete 2021-22 schedule through the end of the non-conference part-

Monday, September 27 - Bradley Basketball Spaghetti Supper- Itoo Hall - Peoria, IL
Wednesday, October 13 - Red-White Scrimmage- Renaissance Coliseum- Time TBA

Monday, Nov. 22- Paradise Jam, USVI- vs. TBA- Time TBA
Saturday, Nov. 27- Bradley vs. Maine (home)- 2:00 pm

Wednesday, Dec. 29- vs. Bellarmine- 7:00 pm
18 game MVC Schedule- TBA
Thurs. March 3 - Sunday, March 6- MVC Tournament

The non-conference schedule includes 13 official games and one exhibition game-

Exhibition game vs. University of Illinois-Springfield (Division II)
3 Neutral site games in the Paradise Jam- Game one vs. Colorado St., Game 2 vs. either Creighton or Brown, Game 3 vs. either Northeastern, Duquesne, Colorado, or Southern Illinois.
2 games in the UTEP tournament- one neutral site game vs. Sam Houston State, and the 2nd game vs. either a road game vs. UTEP or Neutral site vs. North Carolina Central
6 Home games- vs. Howard, Missouri S&T (Division II), Maine, SIUE, St. Joseph's, Bellarmine (new to Division I)
2 Road games- at South Dakota State, Toledo, (and possibly at UTEP)

My only comment is: Bradley better go 6-0 at home this season.

At first I thought it looked bad, but some of these teams were pretty good last year.

South Dakota State 16-7 (9-3), Summit League champs
Bellarmine 14-8 (10-3), Atlantic Sun runners up
Toledo 21-9 (15-4), MAC champs
Colorado State 20-8 (14-4), 3rd Mountain West
Sam Houston State 19-9 (13-3), 3rd Southland

Plus potential opponents Creighton and Colorado were near the top of the BE and P12, although I expect some drop off there.

Some dogs though in Maine and SIU-E (coached by former Wardle assistant Brian Barone), Howard and St. Joe's

Overall I think it's an ok schedule even if the names don't jump out at you.

Update on exhibition schedule-
https://bradleybraves.com/news/2021/...announced.aspx

Red-White Scrimmage- Wednesday, October 13, 6:30 pm at the Renaissance Coliseum
Both the men's and women's teams will be introduced and both will participate in intrasquad scrimmages

Dates TBA- Both the men's and women's teams will play a closed scrimmage against another Division I opponent later this month.
Coach Wardle announced this at the Itoo Hall Supper this past Monday-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...485#post499485
The men's scrimmage will be against a team that finished high in the NET rankings last season.

And the final preseason events will be a double-header of exhibition games on Thursday, Nov. 4:
Thursday, November 4, 8:00 pm- men's exhibition game vs. University of Illinois-Springfield- Carver Arena (8:00 pm)
Thursday, November 4, 5:30 pm- women's exhibition game vs. McKendree University- Carver Arena (5:30 pm)

Men's schedule- https://bradleybraves.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
Women's schedule- https://bradleybraves.com/sports/womens-basketball/schedule

Any word on if the Red and White scrimmage will be live streamed again like last year for us out of town folks?

Any word on if the Red and White scrimmage will be live streamed again like last year for us out of town folks?

I have wondered the same thing. So far, there has been no mention of a video streaming option for the Red-White scrimmage, either in the article or on the schedule page.

So far, no TV or streaming information has been announced by Bradley for any men's game this season. For the last several years, Bradley had a TV/streaming deal with ESPN (ESPN3/ESPN+).
There is a page listing media coverage for live events, but it doesn't show any basketball events-
https://bradleybraves.com/coverage.aspx

But there is some hint that the Bradley streaming deal might be different this season.
Check out this YouTube page that suggests Bradley games might be streamed on YouTube TV-
https://tv.youtube.com/browse/bradle...nszV1gaxXanASA

If you scroll to the right, it lists virtually all the games on the men's schedule available on YouTubeTV. The price is $64.99 per month, though that price also includes their entire streaming package with "85+ LIve Channels", which most people probably already get. It doesn't appear to offer just an option for just the Bradley games at a reasonable price.
If anyone knows anything about this YouTubeTV deal, let us know.
If this is the only option to watch Bradley games this season, I suspect there will be a lot of upset fans.

The women's schedule page does have a link to TV/streaming options for some games which leads to an ESPN page, but there is no link for any of the MVC conference games.
https://bradleybraves.com/sports/wom...tball/schedule

One other thing I notice.... ESPN+ has had another price hike. The first several seasons the Bradley games were on ESPN+, the monthly charge was $4.99/month. Then last year, the price was increased to $5.99/month. This year, the price is up again to $6.99/month.

That would be a pretty expensive change from ESPN3 and I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that cost. Will be a real shame if I can't keep the Youtube/Rumble channels updated with the latest games.

Youtube carries ESPN3 so it might not be exclusive to them.

I get ESPN+ as part of the Disney bundle. For $13.99 you also get Disney+ and Hulu and their massive libraries of TV and movies.

Yesterday afternoon, the MVC announced their national TV package-
http://mvc-sports.com/documents/2021/10/5//2021_22_MVC_TV_Network_Release_for_Men_s_Basketbal l_ESPN_Updated_10_05_2021_.pdf?id=3171
http://mvc-sports.com/news/2021/10/5...-networks.aspx

It looks like it will be the same as last year. In fact, this is the 8th year of a 10 year agreement with ESPN, so it should continue for 2 more seasons.
In addition, each individual school will arrange for their games to be on one of the ESPN channels, with most games likely to be on ESPN3 or ESPN+, like last year.

The Bradley schedule does not show the TV coverage of any games yet.
https://bradleybraves.com/sports/men...tball/schedule

MVC announces TV deal with Bally Sports MIdwest, Bally Sports Kansas City, Bally Sports Indiana (formerly FoxSports networks) and NBCSports Chicago-
http://mvc-sports.com/news/2021/10/5...s-chicago.aspx
http://mvc-sports.com/documents/2021...1_.pdf?id=3173

In past seasons, this deal with FoxSports networks and NBCSports Chicago was referred to as The MVC-TV Network, but I don't see that term used anywhere in the articles or the official press releases any more. They must be attempting to rebrand the conference TV network.

Dates TBA- Both the men's and women's teams will play a closed scrimmage against another Division I opponent later this month.
The Bradley/Iowa closed scrimmage will be Oct. 23
ISU will be in Chicago at UIC Oct. 30
Loyola's closed scrimmage on Oct. 23 is vs. Wisconsin

The Bradley/Iowa closed scrimmage will be Oct. 23...

That BU/Iowa closed scrimmage will be at Iowa on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23.

Here is a more extensive list of "Not-So-Secret List of 2021 College Basketball Scrimmages"
https://watchstadium.com/not-so-secret-list-of-2021-college-basketball-scrimmages-10-15-2021/

The NCAA allows Division I teams to play 2 preseason game, which can be either open exhibition games or closed scrimmages. Bradley will be playing one of each (secret scrimmage Oct. 23 at Iowa and exhibition game Nov. 4 vs. UIS).
8 of the 10 MVC teams will play "secret scrimmages". Evansville and Valparaiso are not scheduled to. UNI and MSU will each play 2 secret scrimmages. It looks like UNI (one scrimmage) and Missouri State (two scrimmages) are the only MVC teams that will play secret scrimmages their home floor.

MISSOURI VALLEY
Bradley – 10/23 at Iowa
Drake – 10/29 vs. South Dakota State in Omaha
Evansville – None
Illinois State – 10/30 at UIC
Indiana State – 10/24 vs. Murray State at neutral site

Speaking of the schedule any idea when season tickets will be available to pick up. Unless I missed it, which is certainly possible, I haven't seen any announcement of when that happens.

Bradley's exhibition opponent next Thursday, UIS, lost last night at WIU, 92-80
UIS has 9 freshman & 3 sophs, and only one player over 6-7, a 6-10 freshman.
Box score N/A, but Macomb paper quotes WIU Coach Jeter saying UIS "shot the lights out"
WIU also shot well, 45% overall, 48% from 3-point, and hit 29 of 39 FTs.

As I posted in my pregame summary-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/s...game-bradley-vs-ui-springfield-thursday-nov-4

Some of the players on their roster who are listed as freshmen are actually returning players who would normally be listed as sophomores, but because of the NCAA rule granting all players who played in last season's Covid year an extra season of eligibility, they are listed again as freshmen for the second straight season.
Likewise, some players listed as sophomores are actually in their 3rd season with the team, etc. There are other NCAA teams who list their players the same way, though Bradley does not.
