BracketBusters 2009

First off great work on this thread by Asian and MM.

Second, this bracketbuster thing is a complete joke as it has been since its begining. We are allowing a third party.. ESPN determine games for us not only this season but next season. Problem is ESPN has its own agenda(money). Allowing this to continue is a slap at the MVC and with us getting into a home and home with the MWC, get out of this stupid Bracketbuster.

ESPN wants what is best for them, period. Get out now.

Finally Liberty v ODU.. enough said, that is just a complete joke and if Elgin isnt raising H### with this selection, then he is letting ESPN do whatever it wants to his conference.

KK, JL and MVC get out of this now.

Les better have declined the Fairfield game.

It is possible they brokered a deal with Elgin to leave Bradley and to give UNI the Siena game as compensation? The thing that REALLY pisses me off is that the rest of the Valley did fairly well.

I don't think KK, Les or Elgin will want to get out of the Bracketbuster. Why should they want to p!ss down the leg of the ESPN who chooses what teams will be on TV for other games also. I think BU got jobbed, but that doesn't mean they should dump on ESPN. Doesn't make long term sense to me.

How does playing year after year in this make any sense to the Valley? Its stupid to let ESPN pick and choose the games they want and want others to view. Id rather us schedule our own games and stop allowing ESPN to dictate any games on our schedule.

Valley coaches and Elgin have a lot of pull in this thing.

And Elgin is the Godfather of non-BCS commishes so he usually gets what he and league members wants.

He also has the responsibility to guarantee quality for next year too.

And for the record, I don't think BU got jobbed. Any of the 4 teams ahead of us have significantly better RPIs and any of them, including BU could go on a tear yet. The problem is that BU continues to job itself early in the non-con. You can't lose to UMKC and expect to get a break for an event like this.

Thats the problem. We just can't get through a season without losing to a couple teams we have no business losing too, and then Les schedules the big boys fro a couple of games for basically automatic losses. I'd rather see a hand full of teams like Richmond every year with maybe one game with a Florida/MSU. That way we don't end up with 6-5 record and end up with a 7-3 or 8-2. Having double digit losses every year is getting OLD!

I think some are making much to do about nothing. I hope we play at Loyola or UIC. Loyola has something we have never had - a NCAA championship. Both of them are always good competition.

Or better yet, we could schedule a bunch of cupcakes like ISU and go undefeated for the non Valley schedule so we can talk about going undefeated for the whole season!!!!!! OOOOOOPS!

I don't think the schedule is the problem, losing to teams that should be beat is a problem. I like scheduling tough. If BU wants to be a Gonzaga or Butler, they need to continue to schedule good teams and beat the team they should beat. Then they will be in the running for at large considerations. Playing a weak schedule will end up putting all of the marbles on 4 wins in STL.

What's our record when playing on the ESPN family (all season, not just BB) the last 2 years?

0-2 this year 1-4 last year

did we do it to ourselves?

We got Loyola (per bradleybraves.com)

Kinda looked thru some potential matchups for our Valley brethren.

Trust me - I have no clue what back-room deals are being made.

Just swinging away blindfolded.

So for poops and giggles:

Austin Peay at Drake
SIU at San Diego
UIC at Missouri St
Montana St at Wichita St
Louisiana Tech at Indiana St

Well, not a matchup I'm excited about, but it is what it is. We gotta go up there and win that game for sure. Anyone know if there's any chance ch. 74 will be able to pick this up (I'm guessing the answer is no)?

Probably not. The Horizon League Network probably has proprietary rights on home games.

But free streaming by the league, so everyone with a relatively decent computer can watch.

Actually the HLN is a pretty good service, all things considered. Better than BUBravesTV by miles.

BB was not going to help us regardless this year. We are playing pretty good ball right now and as long as we continue to improve and teach our bigs how to be consistant, I'm happy. The fact is we need to win the MVC tourney to head to the big dance PERIOD. Loyola is close by so this should not hurt our rythm. We need to be concerned about conference play right now. This also should get us some coverage in Chicago and help recruiting up there.

I'm worried about tomorrow's game being that we seem never ever able to have the needed energy level after an ISU game (see CU game this year).

Yeah I used it last time. Was very good. The last game at Loyola was broadcast on some minor Chicago station and 74 picked it up, so maybe that'll happen again. Not sure if ESPN shares on bracketbuster games though.

Not too happy about the draw we got, but yeah, it's not like we really had an at-large chance anyways.

Yes, and the announcers were hilariously terrible. :)
