I get all my data from Jerry Palm's RPI site, collegerpi.com.

I will update my info in this original post with comments to be found at the end of the thread.

I know it's earlyu, but the fewteams on the "Road" list that I'd put on my short wish list (because of locale, tradition, etc...) are:

New Mexico State (renewing a great old rivalry)
NIU (It'd be nice to face Rob Judson again)
Bucknell (the battle of the Jayhawk-killers)
Long Beach (a little winter sun)

I'd like to see BU play at Nevada. They seem to have put together a very good basketball program and I would like to see them play in Peoria during the '07-'08 season.

It would be nice to play a final four team like George Mason.

Like I said... this is very early. Nice to see a 'short list' put up of teams some would like to see.

But it needs to be put into perspective. BracketBuster games are matchups made on teams RPI's for TV interest. Then things get regional. Then fill in the cracks.

Based on projections, Bradley is not looking at the best 'home teams' for an opponent. So it will most likely be regional (or a fill in the crack).

PLUS - remember, this becomes a return home game in the 2007-08 season. I fear this could be an RPI killer in the 07-08 season - could get a game with 'Bonehead State'. Hopefully JLes and KK can push for a team likely to be ascending in the future like us.

Anyway, here's my short list (subject to change):

Bucknell
Butler
George Mason
Georgia State (Atlanta is a BIG city with possible prospects)
N Illinois
Oral Roberts (I dunno why)
San Fran (good travel destination with Gonzaga to boost the Opponent's Opponent stat of the RPI and SOS)
UC-Santa Barbara (another Cali retreat? warmer than San Fran and closer to Yuba)

Obviously, GM, Hofstra, Montana, and Nevada are the ones that jump out.

Less obvious teams that should be on the ascendancy and contend for league crown is Coastal Carolina.

BU has a historical series with San Fran, and gives Bradley some attention on the Pacific Coast.

Loyola-Chicago would not be a bad opponent.

New Mexico State is an old conference foe.

Niagara would be a local assistant coach tie, and would be a probable postseason team the following year.

Bradley hosts Loyola (Chi) on 12-19-06. A game you might be asked to attend other than just viewing and cheering. (I don't know when the students go on winter break)

With that in mind, I highly doubt Bradley will go on the road in February and play Loyola (Chi) in the BracketBuster.

Butler's early season success definitely puts them on the radar for the BracketBuster (for all teams).

I know I read in another thread on this board that Bradley is already starting a new series with Butler next year starting on the road. But why can't we re-negotiate the contract, starting with on the road THIS YEAR. Or double the contract and play them for 4 years.

I think it could be an opponent we could be considered for in February (and it could be one considered for tv).

That would be a fun game to watch. I remember them giving U of I a good test a couple years ago in the second round. And Nick Fazekas is one of the best players in the nation. Kind of reminds me of Dirk Nowitzki.

I will update the original post so it is easier to find the update.

Ever-changing.... but through games played on 12-19.... if this were the day they decided the matchups, IMO, we'd be looking at a tv game on ESPN/ESPN2 (or just Regional ESPN) at NM St, Nevada or Marist.

This is crazy, but just messing around. I have not looked into whether there have been earlier matchups amongst these teams, but I have tried to make sure they are not in the same conference.

So...Taking a stab at match-ups, if today were the BBuster Announcement Day (top to bottom in order of best home team's RPI):

Drexel @ Butler
Appalachian St @ Wichita St
Southern Illinois @ Loyola (Chicago)
Holy Cross @ Missouri St
Bradley @ New Mexico St
Utah St @ Illinois St
Sam Houston @ Nevada
Winthrop @ Marist
Kent St @ VCU
Old Dominion @ Creighton
Northern Iowa @ Western Michigan
Eastern Washington @ Buffalo
Hawaii @ UC Santa Barbara
Ohio @ Indiana St
Towson @ Siena
Portland St @ Long Beach
Evansville @ Samford
Northwestern St @ CS Northridge
Valparaiso @ Drake
UC Irvine @ Fresno St
CS Fullerton @ Boise St
Albany @ George Mason
Austin Peay @ Bucknell

I'd gladly take a third game against a higher-rated than us Valley team.

I'd also take a rematch with Loyola.

The five scenarios on my radar (Marist has dropped off after their ten point loss to Wright):

1. WMU--probable loss, but despite popular belief, they are a good team and I love their SOS which benefits their draw as well. If you're going to lose, you want it to be a helpful loss.

2. Loyola-Chicago

3. Nevada

4. VCU

5. Another Valley team.

Well, since I don't recall ever seeing it in print that the BracketBuster will not involve teams in the same conference... nor have I seen in print the intent to avoid earlier in the year match-ups... You are free to take the position of desiring those match-ups.

But, IMO and from my understanding of the intent of the BracketBuster, they will NOT:

1) Match 2 teams from the same conference.

2) Match 2 teams that have already played earlier in the season (especially if the 2 teams have to play one another again the following year... no school is gonna tie 2 early non-con games up just because of the BBuster)

Nice angle on W Mich - tough SOS.

In spite of your belief, it is possible Bradley can win a road game.

Now that it has just about been played out non-con wise... I see MVC teams holding pretty firm in their places due to their strong RPI's.

IMO, the MVC is gonna be in almost every BracketBuster game on ESPN.

Who and where? I dunno.

I KNOW they use the RPI for TV/top match-ups for the BracketBuster top match-ups.

That is why I have started and maintained this thread.
