Big East Catholic Schools Getting Restless

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/coll...cle_faaf3252-24c6-512b-a2ab-c5aff2786e78.html

Nothing new out of the St. Louis Post Dispatch besides the obvious... Link above.

BU has some wiggle room with those looking in from the outside window in a 12 member conference...

Now this article says a lot. To me it says that Creighton is no shoo-in for this league due to geography and tv market size. That would help the Valley in the long run, and maybe Creighton, Bradley and Drake would form the template for a future revamped Valley/2nd tier private school conference.

I'll tell you when Bradley needs to separate from the football schools - that's when they talk about adding WIU, Youngstown, or the XDSUs for all sports. That's when you bail.

Because see what just happened in the Big East? We'll get Georgetown'd out of this league just like they did in the Big East.

I want to be out in front of that now while there is movement on a lot of fronts.

I wouldn't wait for ISU to make their move first.

Again, we keep coming back to the same distinction....wherever ISU goes, they will not want Bradley because of the lack of football. As I have always believed, Bradley's best option is to remain in the MVC and fill any holes with the best possible replacement(s).

The best option is to be a part of a basketball conference with private schools of like academic profile, prestige, and admissions criteria (see B10 academia designation). If this requires going east for schools, so be it, we'll add mens and ladies lacrosse and pick up a bunch of student athletes playing the sport out east, in Chicago, and in the St. Louis metro. Hey, don't knock it (yes we have to get our house in order first) but the sport is exploding in the St. Louis market.

Creighton is gone.

I think Bradley needs to find a way to separate from the MVFC schools.

so... just give the names of who are the actual people that you mean when you say "Bradley"

is this going to be one of those decisions behind closed doors...made by a "committee of one"

... or will students, alumni, donors, fans, or even Trustees, etc...have any part to play in what happens?

I would assume that the decision of conference would be worked out between Drs. Cross and Glasser.

This isn't a democracy. It's a university. Those two were hired and approved by the board to make these decisions. I'd suggest trying to get yourself on the board of trustees.

That would be my short term plan until reality breaks into the C7's vision of what they are after. I'm just hoping that the powers to be at BU and the MVC are working on a plausible outcome because the MVC could explode quickly. For example WSU, ISUs, MSU and Evansville all ditch the Valley, what happens? I say we we take a case to the C7 and offer up the MVC division with BU, CU, DU and have the midwest C7 schools+ be part of it. I'm going to bet that a 2 division conference will be more rewarding for the schools then just a 10 team conference. Just in travel logistics alone for all the other sports.

I think it's a board, President, AD thing.

I don't want people like me having a say in what conference Bradley ends up in.

the fans are the only ones who will be around in 10-20 years to have to deal with the consequences of the choice

I'm betting that President Glasser is looking at creating her imprint on her legacy. I'm not to worry on this issue as I have been on others. She appears to be an astute negotiator and has the ability to influence those that matter. Lets not under estimate BU or those that have a direct correlation of their best interest and BU. Now if someone tells me this caught our Administration by surprise then I'd be worried.

As can be said about 80% of all business and political decisions, but there's a reason these individuals have been put in position to make the decision.

but they have "polled" students, faculty, and alumni about other issues that are far less impactful...

You just answered your own question.

For instance, I might let my children have input in what we name a new dog, but I'm not asking their opinions on whether or not we should re-finance our mortgage.

First off this is an executive behind the scenes type of decision. The less people know the better. I'd be completely disappointed if they had to ask anyone what they should be doing.

It didn't.
and that's my thought as well.

Guys who would rather belong to a lesser conference because of competition do not get where this is all going. This is like real estate. It's best to have the worse house in a the best neighborhood then the best house in the worst.
