Bears+snow+Xmas parties+ no students+weak opponent=

We had 2 players on the preseason all-conference teams (TB and SM), and we have the leading scorer in the MVC (AW).
It's funny how when some posters want to blame the coach, they tell us we don't win enough considering we get good talent, and when they want to blame the players they say we just aren't real good.

Gosh just agreed with you...now gotta go back to the good side...

This is a college program...Coach gets all the credit and the blame...the big salary, the public firing...Comes with the deal JL knows that

And ER makes a point...

3 players in the top 10 and picked 5th is a league indictment of something that is not right.

Could be coaching, horrible players from 4-13, or I guess effort.

BU has been mediocre, and makes it hard to stomach when its getting worse.

That said, I don't think this season has been much fun for you either

Just sayin'. The talent is either good or it's bad, the critics can't have it both ways.
You, dru, and ER just showed that's what happens.

And of course, I'd rather see wins. But I am a fan, and I'll be at the game tonight supporting the team.

Wow, all that talent heading into the season, yet we were picked to finish 5th in a league that is a bad as it has been in 10 years...hmmm...wonder what message that is sending out about our program?;-);-);-)

That at full strength we are basically average, somewhat solid, but not spectacular. We'll steal some wins we shouldn't, but so will our opponents from us. Pretty much as it has been every year since the 1950s with the only exceptions being when we had an over-achiever turned future NBA player on the team.

Remember the Oakland game a couple years back? In that junk tournament that we finished second in.... AGAIN? That crowd that saw Chris Roberts hit his 3/4 of the floor miracle buzzer beater only consisted of about 5,000 Peorians (Including Me! :D ) That was a tournament semifinal and that only drew 5,000... Granted, it was a junky tournament, but still.... I go to every game I have the chance to go to, but I'm skipping tonight to watch DA BEARS hopefully take home the NFC North title for the first time since '06. I estimate 5K or less.

Guys...the opponent is terrible....

be fair...if it was someone good, attendance would be better.

I see that we've got 2 very talented freshmen, a couple sophs whose game will come around in a matter of weeks, and a big (WE) who we have seen can play when with the right mind-set & toughness.
Still waiting for DD to play well in a game, but many of you think he's an all-around solid player. Add to the mix a couple Valley 1st/2nd teamers who are injured.
Still think we're in the Top 3 talent-wise in the Valley. Just a matter of puttin' in together. Hopeful about tonight (like I am going into every non-Duke game :))

I agree we have SOME talent just not enough to beat the EIU's and Quincy's of the world. :)

Seriously we "hear" about all conf. and all this and that every year but when you look up its Friday, 2:30 and I'm in St louis again. :)

Me too...now alls we need is another 9.998 and we can actually say "10,000 sceaming fans all dressed in Red...save the Alumni President" :)

Absolutely true, but JL should get a pass this year with the 2 injuries. Most major programs would fall way off if they lost their 2 best players. A lot had to go right for Bradley to finish in the top 2 or 3 of the MVC and almost everything has gone wrong. The worst part IMO is how they are playing and losing. Missed lay-ups and unforced turnovers with no offensive rhythm and inability to run a fast-break makes me want to wait for next year.

I've never tried to play it both ways...I've thought the talent level we've had here has been better than the results...pretty much every season since the 06-07 team. I've just never been a fan of the system we run on both ends of the floor...Too much 1-on-1, "here's a high ball screen, now make some magic happen"...it works if you have someone like Kobe or LeBron ending up with the ball in their hands, but not so much at the level we're at.

But I'll be there tonight...we'll see if we have been able to make any adjustments during the long layoff...

Didn't he already get a "free pass" for last year, though?
Going 16-15 with a team that had "3 all-conference caliber players" (SM, TB, AW) plus Chris Roberts and Egolf? That doesn't seem to be a very solid job to me.

The 38 min. 0 turnover performance from Dodie againts Duke didn't satisfy you?

O.k. - I guess I'm being too harsh on him, but from all the talk on this site about how great he is and that we would have finished Top 3 and 20+ wins if he didn't get injured, I've been disappointed. We DO need him to play solid at the point until DSE returns...well, even after now that I think about it.
Just seems like he has no outside shot and his defense is not outstanding IMO - the games I've seen him play anyways. Don't want to take anything away from his hustle and intensity, which are great.

Offer fans who show up tonight a free small drink and a regular hot dog, and presto, more fans in the stands!

Better yet, offer the free drink and hot dog at a future BU home game to anyone who shows up tonight!

Could show TV in one of the Civic Center Ballrooms of the Bears game, show highlights on the video scoreboard. Let fans in and out during the game to see the Bears...

Anyone who attends all pre-conference games in person get discounted drinks during future MVC games....or gets entered into a free suite drawing for each of the Conference home games etc.

Just need to be creative in marketing your product....

I don't think the crowd is going to be very large tonight. The weather will be the excuse many will use, the Bears are on will be another. But, IMO, many border fans, bandwagon fans, whatever else you want to call them...will stay away because of the product being put out there.

I don't know about other schools and their fan base, but with BU, if the team isn't playing well and winning, not many fans will come out. They may keep paying for season tickets, but actual butts in the seats is a different story!

I would love to be there tonight cheering on BU but I can't be...

The Braves are playing. It's simple. Be there. I'll be listening to Dave and the Dans and will be wearing red.
