Baseball 2026: "It's going to be an exciting brand of baseball"

Bradley ties the game 5-5 after a grand slam in the bottom of the 1st inning by DH Michael Quick.
After the first inning, the game was tied 5-5. But it was all Iowa after that. Iowa built a 21-8 lead, and the game was ended after 7 innings with the run-rule.

A day of poor pitching aside from one clean inning by position player Andre Vidal. Josh Vaughn returned from an injury, pitching for the first time this year, and that will help eventually.

The homestand at Dozer continues this weekend with three against Evansville. Weather is moving the schedule around, now set for two on Friday at 12 and 4, one on Saturday at 3.

We saw a good first game of the doubleheader Friday afternoon at Dozer.

Braves win, 5-2, over Evansville.

A well-pitched game by both teams. For Bradley, pitchers Levy and Webb and Cirelli held the Aces to two runs on five hits.

Braves played error free.

Landon Lowe and Hayden Miller were each on base three times with a two-run double for each.

An encouraging game.

Second game shortly.

Not enough pitching, and too many errors tonight. Final score, 13-6 Purdue.

Our on-base percentage is up close to the middle of the 300 D1 teams, but the pitching is very close to the bottom. It seems that we have enough pitching to compete in one game a week, and the coaches have to look for the one spot where a game seems winnable, and they use their best relief arms. Like a gambler with the shortest stack at the poker table, looking for that one winnable hand to go all-in. Tonight's game seemed winnable through six innings, tied 6-6, and then our pitching and defense gave up 6 in the 7th inning.

But the encouraging thing tonight was two clean innings from starting pitcher Josh Vaughn, a sophomore from Mapleton who is working his way back from injury. Three strikeouts, one hit batter, no hits, no walks in two innings. In effect it's just the second week of his spring training. We sure can use him.

Bradley Baseball Continues Road Trip at Valparaiso with Three-Game Series

Also, Coach Dedman was interviewed this week by D1Baseball's Joe Healy, and the video is here. They talk through several players who are performing well. "This team believes that they can win. ... We've shown a lot of grit and toughness to work through it. And as we're getting some guys back on the mound or getting closer to full health, I think we've got a real shot to finish off some of these series, and get ourselves into the tournament."

Good interview

A good win against Valpo today, 9-6, to even the series. Nineteen hits for the Braves, no errors, and enough pitching to keep ahead.

Landon Lowe, Michael Quick, and Luke Skinner kept hitting well, and catcher Jaxon Schumacher had two home runs. Schumacher and pitcher Ryan Schaffnit, who both have struggled this year, had excellent games. A clean game in the field for the Braves, with no errors. All around, an encouraging day.
