AT

I think AT might see action @ Frostbite Falls.....they are big inside and fouls might become a problem!

How can Nick Evans be getting minutes and AT not? They are both redshirt freshman bigs and AT was a much much higher regarded recruit. Im a little concerned that AT is not good enough to get any minutes away from Singh and DC.

I think he is good enough, and that's the scary thing. Nick Evans didn't do anything that AT can't do. We're letting Eddren McCain sink or swim, why can't we do that with a big?

Agree with everything BB. And I thought Nick Evans looked pretty good against us. I'd take him.

Possibly in two years when he is playing at another school...

And before anyone goes off about this its pure speculation, however, this does have a good chance of happening given what his current situation is...

Which leads me to my point....

Why not play him now?!

I didnt see a lot of posts asking where AT was untill we lost to Creighton. FWIW.

And it scares me that AT can't push Collins or Singh or even Brown for playing time.

AT is only challenging for the 5 position so he is not being challenged by TB. All I can say is that JL believes that he can win this year with DC and SS. I believe we probably get all we can from SS for most nights but DC is an enigma. Shows up for one game and gone the next. You can usually tell when he is showing up so when he is laying his egg I wish JL would try to play AT. DC is not a beast and never will be one. SS can give us some quality minutes but when we play him too many his deficiencies are highlighted. It's tough because when DC comes to play we are a pretty good team and when he doesn't we become pretty mediocre. We need someone who can score in the paint and not allow easy baskets and I am wondering why AT cannot be that guy occasionally. I suspect that AT will start seeing some playing time especially when DC reverts from a beast to a bird.

I would like to see AT play with either DC or SS in the lineuo just once. He could play the 4 on D and the 5 on O.

I would like to see any combination of these three on the floor at the same time just once...especially against a zone defense....if anyone saw the Illini game last night, they destroyed OSU's zone by playing a very good high-low game with their two big guys. I wish JL would at least try this once to see if it would be effective.

I have stated numerous times on other threads that I would like to see AT and SS on the floor at the same time. The combination of AT with DC scares me. SS is a crafty veteran player who imo could help AT adapt to the Division 1 game in game situations and off the floor in practice. Regardless, AT needs minutes now... Given our current situation, not playing AT will hurt us in the future.

If AT does play, I hope it isn't when Jordan Eglseder is in the game. He's a big boy.

Agreed...
If AT has, in fact, added 40 pounds of muscle from last year to this year...then it looks like he needs to add another 40 before he will be strong enough to play in the post at the D-I level.
Hopefully another offseason of bulking up further will give him a better chance to compete for minutes next year...

I stated my doubts about AT at the beginning of the year, and now I feel even stonger. It has to be obvious to anyone who watches the Braves that SS and DC are below average post players, even in the MVC. The fact that AT can't play ahead of them, even with Will Egolf out of the way, speaks volumes. JL wants to win more than anyone, as that's his job, and even he doesn't trust AT on the court. It wouldn't surprise me if he's not around for next year. Seems like a great kid, maybe just not cut out for MVC basketball. It happens everywhere.

Are you kidding me?!?! That's the most rediculous thing I've heard in a long time! AT was redshirted because he did not have any sort of DI body. He is now a freshman with a freshman's body. Give him some time. I understand being anxious about him but your post is completely rediculous.

Yeah...let's keep in mind that AT is indeed still a freshmen, and I'm sure before the season started JL talked to him an reiterated that he is a freshmen "big" and "bigs" take more time to get in the lineup than freshmen guards. I do wish he could come in with SS and TW...that'd be cool to just pound the ball inside relentlessly. However, I just think JL is keeping AT as our secret weapon for next year. :-P

You really must be "disturbed". That's why Les has called him potentially the best post player he's had with the exception of POB :o

Totally agree oh audacious one :)
