Another ISU Scholarship.

well, the NCAA gives ISU transfer from EASTERN WASH. Geoffrey Allen a huge Halloween gift..
they grant him a waiver so he can be eligible right away and not sit out like all other transfers...
This is kind of illogical - so you gotta wonder why Anthony Fields & Omari Greer don't get the same waivers -- it's loony....

What justification did he have? What would our guys try to use?

there appears to be some answer - the Pantagraph says the NCAA has ruled John Jones has only TWO years of college eligibility......
in today's teleconference it was said that John Jones is NOT qualified and thus not eligible to play this year - so it's not a matter of choosing to redshirt.

all that has been said on John Jones is that he came from high school to ISU - so now you are saying he went first to some college, then withdrew -- because that's what I had expected as just about the only reason a kid would have only two seasons of eligibility left...

Spinking, I'm talking about Allen getting to play "immediately", not jones.

I listened to the teleconference and understand that it did sound like thats what Muller said. However, I believe he misspoke and when he said "Jon Jones HAS to sit out this year and will have two years left", he meant to say "He is GOING to sit out this year and will have two years left." Multiple other articles have stated he has 3 years left to play 2, so they have the option of Redshirting him if they want to. Semantics I suppose, since it doesn't really matter either way...

then I assume the "Secondary school" he went to in the Caribbean was actually considered a college and that's how he loses eligibility?

Scott Powers - recruiting expert for ESPN & the Sun Times said this...
"Jones, an under-the-radar 6-8, 250-pound forward from Barbados, has committed to Illinois State.
Jones.. had intended to reclassify himself as a Class of 2012 recruit ... but the NCAA clearinghouse recently declared him a high school graduate

..the likes of DePaul and Missouri had started to catch wind of Jones .. most of the high-major programs interested in the big-bodied, athletic forward were eying him as a 2012 recruit.
According to one college basketball coach, Jones would have undoubtedly ended up at an elite high-major program if he had played one more year of high school.

..Jones has slipped into the hands of Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich and has the potential to be a game-changer for the Redbirds
...On Saturday at the Sonny Parker Summer League in Chicago, Jones faced other college talent from around the area and showed off his potential.
He threw down thunderous dunks, rose above opponents for rebounds, outmuscled players inside and displayed an improving touch around the basket.
....They definitely got a steal in him. The coaching staff did their homework.”

...“I hate to say it, but maybe two years from now he’ll be a pro, easily.....“He’s going to have a bright future.
...Jones will also compete in track and field at Illinois State, but he considers basketball his priority."

NOTE -- it's already 1 1/2 years from when that prediction was made...
..and it was funny to read the story your Vidette writer did on John Jones back in July 2011 - as he tried to rip off the Scott Powers story and got the whole thing wrong...claiming that John Jones was going to attend a high school in Chicago named "Powerhouse Prep" -- LOL

Question for the ISU guys - is Lincoln College's Aaron Simpson still verballed and coming to ISU - he's one of the highest scoring freshman in juco ball and surely must be getting other offers...

I see that Simpson & Lincoln College came and played ICC Wednesday and got beat
(the PJS says the final score was 85-80...but the offical juco site, NJCAA.ORG says it was 86-80) - LINK
Manual's Andrew Jordan had 20 pts & 9 rebs for Lincoln but ICC had balanced scoring with four in double figures.
Aaron Simpson was just 3-10, had 14 pts, 3 reb.
His counterparts - and I suppose the two guys he'd have been guarding - the two starting guards for ICC, went wild (Sam Feehan & Partice Sanders),
and were a combined 10-13, and 13-15 from the FT line - for 19 points EACH!
I can only conclude that Simpson's defense needs work?

I don't think ISU is recruiting him. I wish they were. He has to put in 2 years at Lincoln, so we shall see...

That seems to have been a foregone conclusion with the coaching change and now with the commitment of juco point guard Bobby Hunter, who is a similar player.

Aaron Simpson will make a visit to SIU this weekend.
The Salukis are already at the scholarship limit.. for what that's worth.

apparently Simpson cancelled his visit and was not there...
for a 21ppg scorer as a freshman in juco - he's getting pretty low interest thus far...

Lincoln College held a juco exposure event yesterday, "Juco Jamboree".. a few tweets about it...

a few schools were there to see Aaron Simpson, Cal-Bakersfield, North Texas, Loyola, and one assistant from Peoria..
One report also said Simpson did take a visit to SIU and also to Detroit
