Announcements of Non-Conference Schedules

Most Valley teams are still working on their non-conference schedule..
but some teams are releasing their schedules, and they shed a little light on the Valley and who will play who...

Here's one example...

Utah released it's non-conference schedule...

They have a scheduled date vs. Illinois State on Dec. 19, and they also have the possibility of also playing Bradley in the Las Vegas Tournament.

their early schedule will definitely leave them soft and ripe for an upste if the meet Bradley...
Here are their early opponents: Findlay, USU, Southern University, Seattle (two of these are DII!)

Anyone know or have any way to lookup when non-conference schedules were released last year? I assume it is different for each valley school, but around the same general time. Anyone have the time/willing to put in the effort to check on that? Thanks in advance!

It looks like they got saddled with Southern and Seattle as part of the Las Vegas package. Oof. The price you pay for 2 marquee games later.

They actually did pretty well. Both Michigan AND Oklahoma at home, followed by ISU. That's a nice stretch where 2-1 there plus a 2-1 in the 2 Vegas games + USU would set up for a reasonably solid at-large resume.

So Texas Tech is still DI?
After a 3-13 finish in the Big 12, a 21 point blowout loss in the Big 12 Tourney,
and a 111-66 blowout non-conference humiliation at Stanford (who finished 6-12
and battling for the basement in the Pac-10) I kinda wondered...

Losing by a lot in games qualifies you as DII now? We got owned by MSU and Florida...are we DII?

Also, I think TT just had a pretty good football season and is racking in money BU could only dream of. I think they may still qualify as DI.

Exactly, and they are a "BCS" school that people want the Valley to start scheduling more of. Kinda like playing Iowa State or DePaul.

We have gotten beat recently by UMKC, University of Illinois at Chicago, Bowling Green and who can forget the beating we took to Lubbock Christian, that right there is enough said.

Yes, TT was not very good last year but they did beat both Kansas and TX AM who I believe were NCAA teams last year. They are not a great program but they did play as recently as 07 in the NCAA tourney, a year after our last appearance in the NCAA's.

I will venture to say if we scheduled TT and beat them many would praise the win as quality and if we lost we were playing a Big 12 team and it really isnt a bad lose.

here is a partial view of Creighton's schedule....in the works...

Man.....if Creighton could just get rid of those 2 SWAC schools....those are RPI obliterators. Obliterators.

Other than that....there is a lot of good value in that schedule. They'll need probably a 2-1 record in that Old Spice Classic - a good solid signature win, which apparently is very important given the latest committee trends. None of the other games, by themselves, offer a 1-game at-large salvation chance with a win, but collectively, they offer a great core group of wins to build a resume with.

It's a really good schedule. If it weren't for that freakin' SWAC.

Nov. 20: DePaul 12PM Paradise Jam in Virgin Islands
Nov. 21/22: TBA Paradise Jam in Virgin Islands (Tennessee or East Carolina)
Nov. 23: TBA Paradise Jam in Virgin Islands (Boston College, St. Joes, Purdue, So Dak State)
Nov. 28: Home game TBA

Dec. 2: at Iowa State Ames, IA
Dec. 8: Iowa McLeod Center
Dec. 12: Siena McLeod Center

UNI's remaining TBA games will probably a home 'guarantee' game and a D2 game.

I have heard that Bradley still has a couple non-conference slots to fill, and that the non-conference schedule might take a little longer to complete this year.

There have been a couple very good opponents that Bradley has lost out on because the dates they requested were not available at the Civic Center. This is a real problem for a school like Bradley that doesn't own or control their own arena.

Coaches point regarding the Civic Center is a very good one. Not only are we at their mercy for game dates which is adversly affecting our schedule, the Civic Center has really done us in on the location of the Braves Club "Room". We have been shoved into the lobby and we can't seem to obtain a good location for this room which used to be a great place to meet before games and at half time, but no longer is.
Perhaps JG should direct some of her pent-up energy in negotiating with the Civic Center since Bradley continues to be their best customer but gets treated like a poor relative!

I, for one, like the lobby location better. This way you walk to your seat without coming up toward the court once the game has restarted and walking the sidelines.

Yes, believe it or not, Bradley thought the lobby location would be better last year, because there were a number of Braves Club members who were not happy with the previous location upstairs above the lobby (too far to walk).

However, fire codes do not allow seating to be placed in the lobby, so there will not be anywhere to sit down. Even though it was more conveniently located, fewer people used the lobby site because of they had to stand up. Bradley is still working on resolving this.
