$900k?????

Although a possible $900k is a lot of money, especially at a school like Bradley, at least Coach Ford should understand that expectations coming into the job, and that (in the words of Charlie Sheen) "winning" is expected to return to the hilltop.

If we had this much money to throw around, I am very underwhelmed by this hire. It does not change the fact I think ford can be successful, just that I think we should have come closer to a sure thing.

I'd still really love to know what this concept of a "sure thing" is that some people keep talking about...

In addition to the money he is getting, a private plane took him to Peoria. Sounds like some deep pockets stepped up for BU in this situation. This should be interesting.

Go BU

I am neither a JL hater or apologist, but I am curious whether this is any indicator that those same deep pockets who helped in raising the new facilities had seen enough of the JL-era. There seemed to be alot of support for that "one more year" when JL was cut loose and if this salary/incentives mentioned are accurate, it would seem someone (or multiples) were willing to pony up reportedly over $2M to make this transition. What is the only saying, "money talks, .....walks".

The Kent State beat writer, Carducci, is reporting on his blog that he has CONFIRMED Ford will make 700K BASE with "reachable incentives" getting him possibly over 900K.

That's the kind of money that will get you a quick deal with a 2-time COY. I'm impressed.

we will likely NEVER know what's true and what is not, what's exaggerated and what's just tricky word parsing...

did you not see this comment by Dr. Cross...?
"..But I only offered our head-coaching position to one candidate"

True but newspaper reporters don't throw around the word "confirmed" lightly if they want to stay newspaper reporters for very long.

Dr. Cross also got in a not-too-subtle jab at Jeter and Sutton saying he can't speak to "what motivates some people."

I'm all for moving forward, so this will be my last comment on the subject, but this latest PJStar article and Cross' comments only confirms my fear about the admin with the Money, the 'only one offered', the taking back handed shots at other candidates who turned BU down - I hope I'm misreading all of it, but actions like this will not win you many friends.

Another post from the KSU beat writer on his blog:

Marc,
at $900,000 a year all-in after reachable incentives, Ford couldn??™t turn down the offer.
It??™s just like anyone who leaves someplace they love. That??™s life-changing money. His wife and kids will never have to worry again.
You can??™t put a contract worth almost a million dollars a year in front of somebody who has never been wealthy and expect him not to sign it.
It??™s a much, much better deal than Christian signed three years ago, and it??™s in his footprint as a recruiter.

I agree...I would be really surprised if that figure were true. I would have rather kept JL and hire a great asst. for another 300k..:D

IMHO, The private plane does not surprise me.

While I support the new coach, and hope he does well, I am also underwhelmed with this hire given the report of the money that was offered. With this type of hire, we should have been able to attract a much more experienced coach! If for no other reason, let's look at the salaries of other MVC coaches. I can be very wrong with this, but I believe that Lowery at SIU is the highest paid MVC coach with a base salary around $750k/year. This hire could work out, but it appears that we got desperate and threw way too much money to Ford. jmho

I believe Gregg Marshall and Greg McDermott are the highest paid and are both right around a million per season. It looks like it's good to be named Greg(g).

If what's being reported is correct, BU is now paying in the top 3-4 MVC schools (WSU, CU, SIU)

SIU is the cautionary tale of paying a ton of money when you didn't have to.

I hope this works out. If Ford does well, BU fans will support him and dollars will roll in to offset his salary. If not, BU is SIU.

I'm not concerned about the salary. It has to be looked at as an investment. The question is how much more money do we have for a staff?

SFP, OMG, her twin sister is in Chicago, I couldn't resist, don't be mad at me :)

We all missed our callings, we all should have been coaches!
