6 MVC games Sunday, March 2

2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 seeds have yet to be decided. There are many scenarios that can still happen. The easy ones are either BU or UNI being the 2 seed with a win and ISU Red being the 5 seed with a win, regardless of what UIC and Murray St do. SIU and ISU Blue play their only game against each other on Sunday so the winner will be the higher seed. There's still a scenario where you could have a 5 way tie for 6th at 9-11. In that scenario the cumulative record is used to determine each tied team's record against other teams with the same conference record. If there are still ties, the cumulative record is used again on the remaining teams. Good luck figuring that one out.

Games today (Sunday, 3/2)- times are CST
12:00 pm- Southern Illinois at Indiana State- on ESPN+ - Indiana State favored by 1.5 points
1:00 pm- Northern Iowa at Bradley- on ESPN2 and ESPN+ - Bradley favored by 4.5 points
2:00 pm- Evansville at Illinois State- on ESPN+ - Illinois State favored by 10.5 points
2:00 pm- Valparaiso at UI-Chicago- on ESPN+ - UIC favored by 6.5 points
2:00 pm- Murray State at Belmont- on CBS Sports Network - Belmont favored by 2.5 points
2:00 pm- Missouri State at Drake- on ESPN+ - Drake favored by 14.5 points

Tiebreakers still need to be determined. But looks like we get the winner of Murray State and Evansville

3 teams tied for 8th place, their records against the other two and their final seeds are-
8-seed- Indiana State- 2-1
9 seed- Evansville- 2-2
10 seed- Southern ILL- 1-2

The NET rankings for those three-
SIU- 197
InSU- 203
UE- 243

So, in the Friday, March 7 night session, # 2 seed Bradley looks like they will play the winner between # 7 seed Murray State and # 10 Evansville game at 6:00 pm
And, # 3 seed UNI will play the winner between # 6 seed UIC and # 11 Valparaiso at 8:30 pm.

In the Friday, March 7, afternoon session, # 1 seed Drake will play the winner between # 8 seed SIU and # 9 Indiana State.
And # 4 seed Belmont will play the winner between # 5 seed Illinois State and # 12 Missouri State

MVC Tiebreaker formulas- https://mvc-sports.com/documents/2024/1/3/Arch_Madness_Tournament_Tiebreaker_2024.pdf

Indiana State was 2-1 vs. the other two teams, Evansville was 2-2, and SIU was 1-2 so... since they played an uneven amount of games vs. each other it should resort to NET rankings. Going into today SIU was #190, INS was #213, and Evansville was 243. So Evansville should be the #10 seed, playing Murray State. The ESPN has things listed differently but they don't decide the seeding, the MVC does.

Drake would have lost to Missouri State except with 9 seconds left, Drake missed a potential game tying shot down 2 pts,
but a Drake player in my judgement, goes over the back for the rebound and the ref whistles the foul on the Missouri State guy. So Drake
got 2 FT's to tie and send to OT, where they won. Yet another game the refs decided in the final 10 seconds of the game.

Exactly what I saw, Yoda!

I would be pissed if Bradley had finished one game back, and not two. This improves Drakes slim chances of an at large berth (when they lose to Bradley in the title game). So maybe it's a good thing.

Drake just keeps skating by in close games

Yes, that was their 5th overtime game this season, and they have won all 5 of them. 4 of them were MVC games. Two were against the last place team, Missouri State, plus OT wins against Indiana State and UNI. Their other OT win was against Kansas State earlier in the season.

ESPN is giving Drake a 50% chance of an at-large right now. All depends on how many bid steals and what round Drake would get knocked out in. Could be a similar situation to Indiana State last year.
