2025 Commit Kai Yu

But to compete for the top of the MVC and have a chance to win the tournament, you can't rely too much on freshmen and inexperienced players. IMO, the team could use a couple more experienced players, especially on the wings and inside.

Good point DC. I think we're pretty much set on guards and wings, and I'd like to have the freshmen guards get ample playing time, but there are bound to be struggles and learning. Really need an impact big like Hannah - athletic and who can score from 10 feet and closer...and hit the occasional 17 foot jump shot.
To get a guy like Mast may be hard, but I'm hoping for someone like him.

Well there went my opinion as needing another point guard with experience to help out our freshman guards get used to playing against Div one talent. Will give staff the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they will sign one yet. Also one more big would be nice who can contribute immediately. After next year Meta and Thomas graduate, so need transfers or decent high school players to develop. Just my two cents.:!:

I tend to agree. There are still thousands of kids in the transfer portals and many of them could help next year's team. The 2025-26 team is still not deep in experienced talent, especially with inside players.
There are only 4 returning players for '25-'26 with any significant D1 playing experience- Demarion Burch, Jaquan Johnson, Corey Thomas, and Ahmet Jonovic. And incoming portal guys, A.J. Smith and Alex Huibregtse will add some needed skills and experience.
The 3 incoming freshmen, along with Timoty van der Knaap and Kai Yu appear have talent and potentially could contribute. But to compete for the top of the MVC and have a chance to win the tournament, you can't rely too much on freshmen and inexperienced players. do you think Coach will hold one or two scholarship JUST IN CASE either or both of Duke Deen & Christian Davis get their extra year?

I don't think those cases have much chance of succeeding, and even if they did, a decision by the NCAA is likely months away. And, there is no guarantee either will return to Bradley. There would probably be teams with bigger NIL accounts willing to offer 14th or 15th scholarships to guys like Duke and CD.

It's hard to make a lot of these longer highlight videos - https://x.com/ThePortalReport/status/1916860159927763073
and... https://x.com/LatifNBA/status/1916865955000447201

All of those games were blowouts, and the level competition was not great. But Kai Yu does show a degree of aggressiveness that we only started to see this season (his 3rd season at Bradley) with Meta. And as Tommy said, probably some of those moves would be called fouls in closer games, especially in the MVC. But I like the skills he shows and that nature to go after the ball aggressively and get it to the basket or dunk it. I wish there were more videos, but we'll have to wait.

Maybe I am reading into Eminians article but I took it as...no-more-portal players and still maybe more high school players....less $$$$$?:-o

But are high school players less likely to transfer out in the portal? I don't know the exact statistics, but I suspect the answer is no. So tell me why it wouldn't then be smarter to recruit a portal transfer who is a bit more mature, and experienced and can help a team right away as opposed to a high schooler, who isn't likely to contribute much, and needs a year or so to develop, and who could still leave the next year.
High school recruits who are still available by late April are not likely to be the ones who are going to benefit a team immediately. So you invest a scholarship, and NIL into a freshman who starts to develop then he can still leave the next year.

Can see both sides of the issue. If you have the right balance of experienced portal players, then it may be beneficial to add high school recruits to develop behind experienced players. That is of course if the senior players have at least two years staying in the program while the incoming freshman develops. Also you just never know when any player on your team decides to go into the portal. It is a big mess, but it is here to stay by all accounts.

Nice footwork, and ability to finish with his left hand, even on the baby hook. 3 point stroke looks good too.

So are you starting to think that the NIL and portal will enable the Valley to be as much a landing place for P5 washouts as a farm league for P5 up-and-comers?

I like that he doesn't pause and dribble to be stripped....goes right to the basket and is really quick for a 7' player!

From Richie...how about that...

Funny how time flies... do you realize that it has been 22 years since Ritchie McKay, then at New Mexico, tampered with one of
Bradley's players & was proven, along with his assistant Duane Broussard, to have called many times, and lured
Bradley's best player into transferring and then spouting off a bunch of nonsense in an effort to smear the Bradley coach &
justify his unethical actions.
Ritchie may overall be a good man but he was a slimy, Bruce-Pearl-like snake on that occasion, and I hope Kai Yu does turn
out to be a good player and give us a little payback.

How excited should I be about our new developmental center? Could he turn out to be a great under the radar catch? If he progresses quickly, could he start over Meta? I'm hopeful he'll be very good, but what do the scouts say? However, it is nice to have two 7 foot centers next year! I guess Noone can really know how any of our transfers will turn out but I guess will know eventually if BU has the horses to compete for the Valley title!
