Metamora played Class 4A Wheaton North in the opening round of the York HS Jack Tosh Tournament. Metamora was plagued late in the game with turnovers and missed free throws and couldn't hold a late lead. The game was tied after regulation 56-56, and remained tied after the first overtime 62-62. But in the 2nd overtime Metamora took the lead on 4 free throws by Matthew Zobrist, and they held on for a 69-66 win.
Jonah Funk was Metamora's leading scorer with 23 points. Matthew Zobrist finished with 17 points (5-12 overall, 1-5 on threes, and 6-6 on FTs). Metamora is now 10-2.
Metamora shot 66.7% for the game (28-42), but they were just 1-7 from three (14.3%). And they survived despite committing 23 turnovers.
Metamora, last year's Jack Tosh Tournament champion, advances to the 2nd round and will play Class 4A Palatine HS (7-4) tomorrow at 4:30 pm. Palatine beat Downers Grove South 36-35 earlier today.
