2025 BU commit- Matthew Zobrist

Dave Eminian just posted a great article about Matthew Zobrist committing to Bradley - https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports...mmits-to-bradley-matthew-zobrist/74332195007/

He says, "Metamora star senior guard Matthew Zobrist accepted Bradley's offer, officially committing to the Braves on Tuesday."
That's not exactly correct. He committed Sunday, as we reported at the beginning of this thread.

He also lists the schools that offered Matthew- "Illinois State, Bryant, Eastern Illinois, Penn, Belmont, Saint Louis, Indiana State and Loyola-Chicago".

I've heard there were other schools that offered in addition to those.
Belmont was in his final couple considerations along with Bradley.
But I have no doubt there would have been many more offers if he waited until after his senior year to commit, possibly including some high major programs.

Matthew Zobrist has worn the # 5 at Metamora HS and in summer ball, and he posed with the # 5 for the pictures in a Bradley uniform (below).
Currently, Christian Davis wears # 5, so if he were to return for an extra year in 2025-26 when Zobrist gets to Bradley, that will have to be resolved. But it looks like Matthew will probably be the next # 5 for Bradley when that number becomes available. Prior to Christian Davis, Mikey Howell wore # 5 for one season in 2021-22, Sean East wore # 5 for one season in 2020-21, and Darrell Brown wore it for 4 seasons prior to that (2016-2020).

Note that Matthew's father, Aaron Zobrist wore #5 for his career at Bradley (1993-1997).
Others in Bradley history to wear # 5 prior to Christian Davis, Mikey Howell, and Sean East-

I'm Greedy now that we got Matthew to stay Home! Can we pull off another with D.Richardson from Peoria? It's been 20+ years according to Da Coach since we landed a peoria star right out of Highschool!!!!

Would be nice... He is a class of 2025 teammate of Matthew Zobrist with the Midwest Pro Academy program (Mid-Pro Academy). Bradley is recruiting several others with that program, including 2025 recruits Leshawn Stowers (Peoria HS), Braden Freeman (Moline), Jonah Funk (El Paso-Gridley), and others.
I hope Bradley can land a couple more of these guys.

Coach, I just reread the PJS article regarding Leshawn Stowers from feb.14, 2024! He said, " Dream Come true" as Bradley offered him that evening after winning a big Game!!! We have to find a way to land him and/ or Richardson!!! Maybe Matthew can help, but let's start a trend of not letting peoria high school stars get away from home! Here's hoping.....

I do think landing Zobrist could help Bradley with getting one or more of his Mid-Pro teammates.

I hope Matthew can convince Lashown to stay home! Of course, Bradley has to nail this peoria recruit with as much effort as it takes! What a great start to a rebuild in 2025 if we can get another local real homeboy from peoria!!!

This is tremendous news. The BU legacy continues its connection to this high character family of excellent shooting guards. I’m very excited about this.

couldn't be happier. This is such great news.I The Zobrist family name continues to resonate at BU

From Chicago Sun-Times High School Sports Editor Michael O'Brien commenting about the 2024-25 Metamora boys basketball team - https://x.com/michaelsobrien/status/1856402144712425615

Metamora: Bradley recruit Matthew Zobrist is one of the best offensive players in the state. Ashton Grieves and freshman Kayden Turner can shoot it. Senior Colin Ramage, sophomore Zach Born, 6-10 Jonah Funk and 6-5 freshman Brady Jones will also have important roles.

High school basketball has started and Metamora played their first game today at the Washington High School Tournament of Champions against a pretty good team from DeKalb HS.
Final score- Metamora 51 DeKalb 41
Matthew Zobrist was the game's high scorer with 21 points, and he also had 7 rebounds and 4 assists. South Dakota commit Jonah Funk had 7 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Btw, Dietrich Richardson and Peoria Manual play their first game tomorrow night (Wed., Nov. 27), against Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin in the Decatur Thanksgiving Tournament.
Recall that SHG beat Metamora for the Class 3A state title in 2022, but Metamora won the state championship in 2023.
