2025 Bradley Red-White Showcase

DJ impressed the most
Nice shooting touch
Lots of length defending the perimeter
Shot well
.. doubt we get stats but both teams must have shot 50% overall and close to that from 3-pt

attendance was better than I recall for the Red-White in past years - prob something to do with the local guys on the team

No, I have not heard that Dietrich is going by DJ. That was what his uncle (whose name was also Dietrich) was known as.

And Corey Thomas played less than just about everyone. He didn't really do much. Maybe there was a reason, such as a nagging injury.
When he did get on the court, I don't think he played center.

Agree. He doesn’t play like a 7 footer.
In addition to being 7-feet tall, he has a long reach, and quick reflexes. He had a game-high 2 blocks in just 8 minutes of playing time at Green Bay. And, he blocked another shot or two in yesterday's short scrimmage. He still seems to have a way to go to maximize his potential, but I agree that he'll get some playing time this year, and could be the main "5" guy the next couple years after Meta is gone.

With B.Jones working with him he will get better. He is more athletic then Meta which means he has a lot more upside to his game. I hope he stays 3 years.

He goes by D-Rich i believe.

And I also noticed that about Corey. Saturday and AND at Green Bay. I find this odd, since he is our most vocal leader. I am hoping its not an injury. Maybe he has accepted his role as a backup, if thats what the team needs.

NGL half the time I would rather have him in than Meta, but thats just me... all depends on the other team

Corey played 17 minutes off the bench at Green Bay, played well, and was the second-highest scorer for Bradley with 11 points. AJ Smith started at the "4" position. It might have been because Green Bay lacked size, or maybe it was based on practice results. I agree with you about Corey. He sometimes looks like he isn't giving maximum effort, but he's a smart player and he gets results. He also can knock down threes, which won a couple games for BU last season. He had 16 points and was the POG in a win at Murray State last year. And he had 21 points, was 3-5 from three, and carried Bradley to the win at George Mason in the NIT. I think we'll see him starting some games this year.

I will take Cory over Meta to start most of the time. If any of our games go to overtime I choose Yu to jump at center and get us the tip.D-Rich looks more then ready and the only he needs to cleanup is fouling.

I didn't see this in the 1st scrimmage. He showed potential, but pretty raw, but I will say - not timid. Montana OTOH looked like he's ready right away to contribute - maybe 10-15 mpg.

Yu shows me athleticism that is surprising me. He needs work on fundamentals but he may play more than I thought
I asked Yu in the middle of June if he will be playing much this season and he said "Oh yeah" - maybe his English was a barrier and he misunderstood me...maybe he didn't! Such a nice and friendly (giant) kid! As is Gustavo, who appears to be redshirting. Gustavo was one of the Braves in the summer and at the Spaghetti dinner who was actively finding fans to talk to, and his English is not great.

Yes, there is no chance Gustavo will avoid redshirting this season. I talked to him at the Itoo Hall about his knee injury that he suffered late in his final season in high school. It was a serious injury and required surgery. He has not played since his injury and is just now being cleared for non-contact light workouts. If all goes well, he said he is hopeful he can be back on the court in a couple months, and he expects to be 100% by the start of next season.

Mast sat out a year after his surgery during his first year at Bradley. It seemed like it took several games to get into condition the next year. I don't know how one surgery compared to the other.

Rienk was pretty much 100% recovered by the time he started playing at Bradley in late Nov., 2020 (Covid season). By then it had been a year and a half since his surgery to repair his torn ACL. He started slowly because it was his freshman year in D1 and he had not played against any competition for a year and a half. But he quickly moved into a starting role, and ended up averaging pretty good numbers for a freshman (9 ppg, 6 rpg, and 36% from three).
